Bought this for husbands birthday, and now I know so much more about metal because he quotes the book to me. He's very happy with it too!

Simplemente excelente. La historia del Death Metal y grindcore desde sus inicios, con sus influencias y todo su desarrollo en sí. Me hubiera gustado encontrar la versión traducida al español, pero igual no hay problema con que esté en inglés.

If you fancy yourself knowledgeable in the ways of the Death Metal, trust me, if you haven't read this book your knowledge is weak. I believed myself worldly and knowledgeable I knew with certainty I had this history nailed in the facts and details, and while I was not wrong, neither was I correct. This book is an amazing textbook, with an abundance of details, facts with more knowledge than I ever thought possible. This book schooled me. The number of times I exclaimed "HOLY S*&T, I didn't know THAT!" is many. This is a must-read and must-have for every metalhead or music aficionado.
Horns up!

Informative history of extreme metal

It probably goes without saying that this won’t be a book for the casual fan of extreme music - if such a fan exists, that is. “Choosing Death” is aimed squarely at the rabid, passionate followers of death metal and grindcore.
Filled with many photographs, flyers, etc throughout, this book offers plenty of detail regarding the genesis of death metal and grindcore. It also affords some strong insights into its growth via tape-trading, the making of a series of classic albums, death metal’s brief flirtation with major labels, the commercial peaks and valleys the sub-genres have enjoyed and more. The final chapter, which investigates the lucrative reunions undertaken by the likes of Carcass and At the Gates is also a fitting conclusion.
I did find it interesting that there is no mention of deathcore in the updated version. Obviously this is a contentious off-shoot of death metal for some fans, but its popularity has certainly boosted the profile of extreme metal worldwide.
Overall, if you’ve enjoyed publications like “Decibel” and “Terrorizer” throughout the years, or are a devotee of these styles of music, “Choosing Death” is highly recommended.
