5つ星のうち4.0 面白いけど、怖さはまぁまぁのホラー小説＋クライム・ノベル風作品

ある作家の周辺で不可解な事件が頻発し・・・というお話。

作家のペンネームが人格を持って現象化し襲ってくる・・・という風に書くとネタバレですが、広告等で既に色々書かれているので、まぁいいでしょうか。実際にキング先生がリチャード・バックマン名義で作品を発表していた事実からネタが浮かんで作品にした模様です。

個人的には設定は魅力的に思えますし、ホラーの王道とも思いますが、人格化した主人公の片割れのキャラクターがあまり怖くないというか、恐怖をもたらす感じではなく、普通の悪党風に書いてある所が少し不満ではありました。本人のあとがきで、敢えてそうした様ですが、もっと人間に理解できないモンスター風にした方が怖かったのでは、とか思いました。

あと、すずめの大群のイメージがイマイチ私の頭に視覚的イメージとして喚起してくれなかったので、もう少し若い頃読んだ方が良かったと後悔しております。すいません。

中で登場する、人格化したキャラの事を「精神異常者」と訳しておりますが、キング・クリムゾンの代表曲の「２１世紀の精神異常者」という曲の邦題が不穏当という事で「２１世紀のスキゾイドマン」に変更になったそうで、この小説の場合は発売されてからクレーム等はこなかったのかどうか気になりました。その後文庫化で少し変更しているのかも。知っている人がいたら教えてください。日本で「精神異常」と「精神障害」が意味が違う様ですが、欧米ではどうなっているかも気になりました。

ネタは面白いけど、怖さが少し不足した感じの作品（決してつまらない訳ではないです）。機会があったら是非。

蛇足ですが、あとがきで影響をうけたというシェーン・スティーブンスの作品が私の知る限り邦訳がないと思うので、是非翻訳して頂きたいです。

もともと暇つぶしに読み始めたものなのに、いつの間にか夢中になっていた。
キングの作品は大抵そうなのだけれど、これもやっぱり読み始めると自分が止まらない。
続きが気になる、というのとも少し違う。
止まらないのだ。次次次次…目は文字を追い、手はページをめくる。
心のそこからわくわくする。
クライマックスに向けては、もしかして、こうなってこうなってこうなるんじゃないだろうか！？とある程度の予測が立ち、そのとおりに進んでいることに快感を覚える。
絶対に飽きさせない。たとえ先がよめたとしても。
つまり、おもしろいんです。

今まで読書をして来なかった私は分厚さと中身を見て一瞬読むのを躊躇ったけど…何とか読み終えました。
想像しやすく書かれていたのでスムーズに読む事が出来ました。

やっぱり怖かったですね。ベランダにスズメが飛んでくると一瞬ドキッとします(笑)

悪いことだけど、スタークの殺人シーンがかっこいい。
狡猾、破壊、スタークの行動は無駄がなくスマートだ。
追い込まれるサド、支配力を増すスターク。
私もサドの様に震え、スタークの影に怯える。
そして対峙・・・
ラストは好き嫌い分かれるだろうけど、
スタークのクールさに満足なので気にしません。

This is one of Stephen King's better novels. It felt good to read this a second time. It is beautifully written and full of horror and anguish. The narrative progresses at a smooth pace with the emergence of the menacing George Stark. Brave efforts of Thad Beaumont and his insistence to remedy this awful situation with his Dark Half abound a lot in this book. Alan Pangborn's plucky efforts to solve this case and understand the supernatural element of the case feature prominently as well as his ability to make shadow animals!! It was a great book, a real chiller thriller from the maestro. The sparrows are flying again.

I am not a die hard fan of Stephen King but I enjoy his writing very much. The most attractive part about his writing is that he gives a lot of clues about the horror or supernatural elements throughout his stories for the readers to find it out. Thus, you also can be a part of the story itself. You won't find any demon on the curdboard here, neither under the bed nor beside the doors but The supernatural or horror staffs will be with you the whole moment and you can feel and understand its presence in every page of the book.
This is the 9th book of SK for me and I can say it is the most underrated one. I heard about many of his works like The Stand, IT, Salem's Lot etc etc but not this and I feel this book deserves something more because the writing is very much engaging and incredible. The plot is very much different and the tension between the characters are constant throughout the book. I recommend this book to any horror/thriller fans and especially those who are new to his writing styles and confused how to start a SK novel. Its writing style is much easies than the other ones and the book is also just 450 pages and you can go through it very easily. I really loved this one very much.

Was wäre, wenn deine dunkle Seite Wirklichkeit würde und sich in einer Person manifestiert? Vor allem, wenn du das selber nicht mitbekommst, oder nur dadurch, dass du plötzlich im Fadenkreuz von einer Mordermittlung stehst...
