このシリーズ、登場人物の個性、情景、設定、どれをとってもマクラウドの作品の中で、
いや、数あるドメスティック・ミステリの中でも群を抜いているのでは
(本来、コージーとは豪邸を舞台にして有閑階級の間で起こる事件で、
　なおかつ暴力的で嫌悪感を催すものを含まないという意味です)。
1作目『にぎやかな眠り』ですっかり虜になったバラクラヴァものの第2弾では、
今回の主役ともいうべきストット教授の尊敬＆愛すべき人柄やその風体、
新しくバラクラヴァにやってきたヘレンの親友イデューナの登場、
さらには前回はあまり見せ場のなかったトールシェルドも大活躍で
ますますパワーアップしているのが、ファンとしては嬉しい限り！
突然の銀行強盗、誘拐から始まって血なまぐさい殺人、陰謀と、
ミステリの要素はこれでもか！というほど詰まっているにもかかわらず、
やはり最後まで絵本的なムードも失われてはいないのが不思議。
この独特の空気は、数多いユーモアミステリでもこのシリーズだけだろう。

シャンディ教授の頭が冴える、コージーミステリの傑作！
蹄鉄がひっくり返されたのを筆頭に（幸運が逃げていくと言われている。）、金銀が強奪される、ベリンダ（ストット教授が三十年かけてきた研究の生ける標本、美しき三百㌔の雌豚妊娠中）は誘拐される、あげく死体が発見される！
読んでいる間中、とても楽しくて、トールシェルドのような学長のいる大学がもしあるなら行ってみたくなる。

高田恵子氏の訳が気に入っています。ずいぶん以前に読んだ記憶がありますが、もう一度読みたいと思って購入しました。本の状態は良好です。「普通」評価は内容に対してということです。

ｼｬﾝﾃﾞｨ教授ｼﾘｰｽﾞの二作目、三作目は特にお気に入り。コージー・ミステリー。肩の張らない、愉快で、ご飯もおいしそう。そして、ｼﾘｰｽﾞものだけあって、登場人物は皆、個性的。別名義ｱﾘｻ・ｸﾚｲｸﾞのｼﾘｰｽﾞもそうだが、ﾐｽﾃﾘｰ部分外の話のテンポが早いです。よく、ｼﾘｰｽﾞもので、永遠に年取らないﾋﾛｲﾝとかっているけど、これは状況、環境がどんどん進みます。ほとんど全作読破しちゃいました。別名義も入れるとすでにたくさんのｼﾘｰｽﾞ物が出ているので、気に入ってからも長～く楽しめると思います！

Das Buch ist schweinemäßig lustig, auch wenn natürlich schwerer Raub, Entführung in 2 Fällen, Mord, Betrug und abermals Raub in Verbindung mit versuchter schwerer Körperverletzung an und für sich nicht lustig sind. Wenn Peter Shandy und Thorkjeld Svensson darin verwickelt sind, ist es lustig (nur nicht für die Übeltäter, natürlich 😂)
Der nächste Teil wartet schon darauf, gelesen zu werden....

This is only the second in the delightful Peter Shandy series so the reader new to it has a good deal to look forward to. It is not at all necessary to have read the first to fully enjoy the second, although the systematic reader may prefer to maintain the order of writing. Those new to the author, who is quite contemporary, although she passed away a few years ago, might be interested to know that she wrote four series of books, probably the best of which is the extended story of the Bittersohn's with this one taking second place. All are available in Kindle editions, each has its own setting and its own set of idiosyncratic characters.
The setting is an agricultural college in New England in which two stunning events have struck Professor Shandy within a period of days. While buying a set of fine dishes, he and his wife are present during a holdup in which a fortune in gold has been stolen and his wife taken hostage (and released) to help effectuate the escape. Within days, a College employee is killed and a prized pig stolen. The former had no impact on the College but the latter threatened to destroy the work of many years of breeding as well as being, of course. a shock to the sense of security of those associated with the College. To help the College deal with the latter, Professor Shandy is called upon by the Stalwart President to lend a helping hand to the police in solving the murder and finding the pig. There is a bit of the Wodehouse flavor to the book, of course, quite deliberately so, with the murder, however, creating a bit more seriousness than is found in the Old Master. The book is essentially light-hearted with a sprinkling of love affairs among students and faculty to add to the problems of Professor Shandy who has become, as a result of the events detailed in the first books, a sort of guru of problem solving for the Viking-Like President.
The book is easy and pleasant reading, the characters pronouncedly characters and the outcome foreordained. There is nothing here of the cuter side of the ' cozy' as it is often written today, none of the need of the Little Woman to Show that she is Superior to the truly little Man, here Man and Woman cooperate (or conflict) as individuals, each contributing equally to the final outcome, an amusing book with interesting characters, achieving a satisfying outcome.

I really love the Peter Shandy mysteries and have not read this one before. Great to follow the further relationship of Peter, Helen and the rest of the Balaclavians. As always, Charlotte MacLeod has produced a carefully crafted mystery with multiple characters (with fabulous names!) and despite all the twists in the plot, it all resolves to the reader's satisfaction. No unresolved issues or unpunished villains! A lovely read.

Whether it's Peter or it's Helen you can count on wonderful dialogue. The other characters are a blast and the story is well crafted. Start the series with the first book 'Rest You Merry'. I guarantee you'll be hooked!
