The hero had a huge chip on his shoulder, but the author came through with a cute love story that pulled on your heart strings. I enjoyed it.

I will not bother with re-writing what the story is about. I will just explained as to why the 3 stars.
I got very confused when reading, from Blue's pov, when he thought "... He didn't mean to fall in love with Allison..." Then on the same page, "..thought he didn't love her....". So, did he or did he not? This was not clear at the moment. Then in the back of the book, the description said "Allison Lancaster was a banker's daughter" ...uh no, she was a banker's niece. Then the end was rushed, and to top it off it was from the sheriff's point of view, who was mentioned briefly during the book.

Most convenient marriage books are the same. Rich man needs a wife, but doesn't want love so he basically blackmails the woman into marriage. The woman normally a virgin resists because she wants to marry for love but has limited bargaining power to refuse due to some negative consequence if she does.
This was exactly the plot in this story but the difference with this book was that the author wrote such passionate characters. The passion was strongest in the way the main characters dealt with their internal conflicts so you were drawn in and kept. The H was so convincing in his belief that love didn't exist that you left his loneliness and pain. Your heart ached for him and you understood his reaction and actions. The h was also strong in convictions. She was open about her reasons for her reluctance to marry and no matter what the H did or said she was resolute in belief in love. She was so brave that she told the H she loved him then when he rebuffed her she calmly and lovingly psychoanalyse his reasons for denying love. His reaction didn't scare her and she remained hopeful and was rewarded.
My only issue was the epilogue. It focused not on the H and h but on the aunt. I preferred to read about the progress in the relationship whether they had kids which the H really wanted. Otherwise enjoyable read.
