On Roll My Blues Away, Tony Furtado combines his bluegrass banjo past and his slide-guitar blues future with a haunting, spare elegance that marks this as a superior acoustic-instrumental. Like Fleck and Cooder, Furtado has learned that the liberation of acoustic music lies not in playing more notes faster but in playing fewer notes with more feeling. On this album's 10 original instrumentals and two traditional songs, the arrangements are stripped down to focus on the strong melodies. His guitar sounds weary but content on the lovely Tex-Mex ballad, "Song for Early"; his banjo evokes the prickly dissatisfaction of the slow blues, "Willow Tree"; he plays both guitar and banjo on the nervous, restless tune, "The Stark Raven." --Geoffrey Himes

So I listened to track 3 on "LastFM.com" and fell in love with it.
I bought the album and feel well justified. I told my family about it and they all nodded and smiled until I played it for them. Now they all want a copy of their own... I win. It now stays in the convertible and is perfect company for a slow ride down the Natchez Trace while the redbuds bloom.
If you like Bella Fleck, and a twist of occasional Celtic, you'll love this.

Not terribly country, but still bluegrass and more acoustic guitar than twang, this album has been a goto item for the truck or the cabin. Don't be fooled by the crummy sample quality of the amazon soundbites - he got the sound just right on this one. Definitely recommend it - especially if you have a tendency toward the "themes of varied repetition" style.

Every track is a beautiful composition. Fidelity is excellent and stands out as better than most compact disks. This is a very enjoyable cd that I listen to often.

A friend recommended this artist to me and I am glad he did. I play banjo and slide guitar, Tony has some good stuff here. I may have to get some of his other CD's.

Don't be lookin for bluegrass licks on this album - it is pure funk. Delightful, melodious, extremely listenable. This cd has a great mixture of tunes and styles so you won't get bogged down in that same-ol' same-o.
It's a little embarrasing that a guy from Florida had to tell me about a musician that lives a couple of miles from me, but I'm damn glad he did.
