Never heard of this group until recently so I thought this was a good collection of songs to try. Enjoyed it and will check for more CDs.
It's Still My Opinion!

And That's why in 1969 I lost Track of This Band. Because of my Lack Of Knowledge of The Ohio Express: They were Much Better than I remember!

This Compilation has Good Sound Quality & it comes in The Standard Jewel Plastic Case & Although there aren't hardly any Liner Notes Here: This 1994 Collectibles Disc represents The Ohio Express Hit Making Years Very Well. As A Matter Of Fact: there are Three Hit Songs on this CD I remember hearing on AM Radio then & I didn't even know they were sang by The Ohio Express.....I will explain!

After the Joey Levine Charting Hit Songs: I lost track of The Hit Songs The Ohio Express sang on AM Radio. What I mean by that is between Early 1968 & Early 1969: Joey was the Lead Singer on Their #33 US Hit "Down At Lulu's", Their #15 US Hit "Chewy Chewy", Their Top 100 US Hit "Sweeter Than Sugar", Their #30 US Hit "Mercy" & Their only Top 10 Hit "Yummy Yummy Yummy". In those days I bought those Songs New on Vinyl 45's and all of those Tunes were on the Buddah Records Label.....Then..... In Early 1969 Joey left The Group. Joey's Voice sets these Five Songs Apart from the Other Ohio Express Charting Hit Songs. Charting Position Wise: These Tunes were the most popular Songs for The Ohio Express but not necessarily the best by The Band.

With The Producers trying to keep The Ohio Express name alive Three other Charting Ohio Express Tunes followed consisting of a revolving crew of Musicians with other Lead Singers.....In June 1969 "Pinch Me" made The Top 100 at #99 on The US Charts & The Lead Singer was Buddy Bengert. Then in September 1969 led by Graham Gouldman "Sausalito" reached #86 on The US Charts for The Ohio Express & what's interesting about that Song is it was Recorded in England by The Group that would become The Eventual 70's Super Group 10CC!.....In November 1969 A Third Charting Single made it to #101 on The US Charts and it was "Cowboy Convention". All Three of those {Post Joey Levine} Songs are Great and they should have done Much Better on The Charts!......That explains why I lost track of The Ohio Express but did not loose track of those Three Songs.....I just didn't know The Ohio Express sang them & now I do! In 1970 The Ohio Express Name was Quietly Retired.................But Only For A Few Years!

Every Tune I have mentioned in This Review thus far is on This CD plus others. The Original Ohio Express Group was from Mansfield Ohio and to make a long story short.....if you want The October 1967 Top 30 Ohio Express Hit Song "Beg, Borrow And Steal" (it's missing from this Collection) Just Buy The Rare Breed 10 Song Collectables Super K Kollection CD. That's what I did about Eight years ago. It's The Same Version we were used to hearing by The Ohio Express in The Late 60's anyway. The Original Rare Breed Version came out around May of 1966. After roughly 35-40 years I think I finally figured out that The Rare Breed (from Brooklyn & The Bronz, New York) were The Original Singers of "Beg, Borrow & Steal"!

Final Thoughts: Like The Five Charting Joey Levine 45's: I also bought The Ohio Express 45 "Beg, Borrow And Steal" new. I can still vision in my mind from 1967-68 what that 45 looked like but I couldn't remember the Label name and I knew it wasn't the Buddah Records Label so I looked up a Photo of that 45 on The Internet and lo-and-behold I found it and my Ohio Express "Beg, Borrow And Steal" 45 was on the Cameo Parkway Label! That Tune is Not on my 2-CD Nuggets From Nuggets However it is on The Original 4-CD Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968 [Box set] AND The Rare Breed are Listed as The Group who Performed it on That Nuggets Compilation also.....Ah the Old Stories us Old Timers can tell!.....But As with all of my Reviews on Music Compilations.....This Story Is True! :-)

The first time I heard Ohio Express, I was in the strawberry patch bent over in the sun. The happiness that their music projects is still there, just as strong as the first day I heard it! This is a quality recording that was very well put together. Kudo's to the recording studio as well as the artists!

Great purchase. Memories of early childhood and early teen years. Drove my wife crazy when I played it. Now she is humming it at times. Thank you
