While most box sets are for completists only, this set begs to differ.
Sure it's got an outtakes/rarities disc but this set is the one to have if you are a G5 fan.
From the first album leading off with Flowers (one of their best and underrated at that) to the last tune on the third and last official album, you won't find a better three record output with hardly any filler.
Sure, you have to be a fan first and foremost, but if you can deal with Wareham's nasally singing and insipid lyrics (not bashing here), you have a great guitar player coupled with the best rhythm section in alternative music (Damon and Naomi).
The first three albums are all here but the surprise is the fourth disc of "uncollected" songs.
A terrific batch of songs that would have belonged on any legitimate album.
Actually, I don't know how or why you wouldn't have "Maracas Song", "Crazy", "Jerome", "Song in 3", or practically any of these performances on one of the first three albums.
Maybe this was meant to be the fourth album.
However, there are some clunkers - the Rutles cover of "Cheese and Onions" is utterly forgettable and whose idea was it to put that godawful sax on Blue Thunder?
Simply horrendous.
And the closer is a bootleg recording of the Beatles Rain segueing into Don't Let Our Youth Go To Waste, featuring King Missle's Dave Rick on guitar.
Apparently from their first show ever.
Now this is for completists only.
Oh, and one more thing.
The four videos included by Sergio Huidor are just awful.
Galaxie 500 released 4 videos during their heyday and believe me, these four pieces of crap did them no service.
Unwatchable and probably turned off a bunch of prospective fans.
Thanks for nothing, Sergio.
