Fred Frith plays some of the most abstract and yet emotionally engaging melody free music on this cd that I have heard. He is able to create mood and atmosphere without employing the usual musical structures heard in 99.99%(not scientifically tested) of music that is out there at the moment.
Basically this is an album to put on, sit down and allow it to wash over you, taking you out of the normal and into the sublime.
The last track, Two Birds, is worth the admission fee alone, truly epic.
"Solitary" in that it's Fred Frith removed from the context of Henry Cow, and that there's no other album quite like it. By turns his guitar explorations are playful, cerebral, eerie, aggressive and melodic; far out, but never weird for weirdness' sake. A great album.
