Trip-Hopというジャンルで有名になったバンド、SNEAKER PIMPSのデビューアルバムに少し改訂を加えた作品です。基本的に出回っているのはコチラ。

ノイジーなギター、浮遊感のある音の壁、また何より極めつけは女性ヴォーカルのケリー・デイトン嬢の声にこのアルバムの魅力はあると思います。

太くて力強い声ではなく、独特の幼さと妖しさを合わせもったまた別のパワーを彼女から感じます。
彼女が歌うことによって一曲一曲の個性がより強調され、アルバム一枚は気がついたら終わってしまっているほど(笑)いやはや名盤です。

現在はバンドは存続してはいるものの、ケリー嬢はこのアルバムリリース後に脱退。
ギタリストがヴォーカルをとって活動していますが、これはこれでまた新しい味を出せていると感じました。

個人的にはやはりケリー嬢のソロ作に注目です。
彼女は現在ケリー・アリとして活動中。多くのアーティストとのコラボレーションもしています。
なかでもBUCK-TICKのギタリスト、星野英彦氏とCUBE JUICE氏とのユニットdropzのアルバムは会心の出来だと思います。

スニーカー・ピンプスのメンバーは以下の三人だった。

●ケリ・デイトン(ボーカル)

96年4月リリースの1stアルバム
この古さでも音は全く今でも皆無
このアルバムを最初で最後に●ケリ・デイトン(ボーカル)
は脱退。
その後は杜撰惜しい
でも良いアルバム。
今でもCD棚から手にしてしまう程いいアルバム。
若い頃刺激を受けましたが今でも楽曲制作する際にお手本となるいいアルバムです。
収録されているどの曲もいいですがやはり
Amazonのなかでは販売されていない

BONUS TRACKSの

12:NO MORE

が一番いいです。これを操れるDJにお目にかかったことがないのが残念です。無理な事なのかもね。

悪い意味では無くドンシャリな音と、ハスキーなボーカルの組み合わせが結構好きです。
音楽だけでなく声にもシャキシャキ感があり、個人的にこの声は好きかも…と思います。
試聴では声のハスキーさがよくわかりません。残念。
全体的にはダル系の雰囲気ですが、(11) は少し明るくスケールの大きい感じになっています。
もう１トラック明るい音が増えていたら、星５つにしてました。
普段聞いている分には全く気が付きませんが、ドライブ中に流していると
救急車と同じ音が聞こえてびっくりするかもしれません。

Set your turntable to spin at 45 RPM, even though the discs say 33. They play at 45. The labels were a misprint.
The album is truncated as well, instead of the original versions it features the remixed single versions of "6 Underground" "Spin Spin Sugar" and "Post Modern Sleeze" are all their remix versions instead of the 1996 album versions although this is not made clear in any way on the track listing of the album cover nor the inner sleeves not even on the discs themselves. But the printers of those labels didn't even manage to get the RPM correct so I'm just glad the tracks are mostly right.

The pressing you probably received is the 2020 pressing of Becoming X just look at the picture I've uploaded to verify its the same as the one I received. If so then the RPM and track listing are like I mentioned above.

Overall I'm not really too upset about this pressing. It sounds great on my little set up, and yes the snafu with the RPM is pretty ridiculous and makes CleanUp look positively inept as a company.
But everything else I can understand. The alternate versions of the songs, while I would have rather just had the original album versions, I get it. This album probably isn't getting that many pressings and all those remixed versions are the versions that were always played on the radio and probably way more well known than the album versions. It just would have been nice for that information to have been provided up front.

Funny thing is I remember buying this album on cassette tape in 1997 and being annoyed that the tape didn't feature the remixed versions of "6 Underground" and "Spin Spin Sugar" which was how I was used to hearing them and here I am well over 20 years later mildly perturbed about the exact opposite having occured with this vinyl pressing.

All and all if this thing is still listed for sale you should buy it, regardless of what mix it is this album is fantastic and who knows when or if it'll ever get another pressing it's hard being a mid 90s trip-hop fan and these records have a tendency to become pretty scarce so you gotta take what you can get I guess.

The album is pressed on a heavy vinyl, probably at least 180gm if not more, and is 45rpm.

Sound quality is quite good...

Although I've always loved their track for "6 Underground", I was curious to see what other songs and sounds they had because I've been trying to collect Trip Hop classics from my youth.

The lead singer's vocals are very sensual yet powerful.

My copy of the album has the version of 6 underground from the music video which is a remix, and not the original version... I don't mind this actually because that's the one I remember most anyways.

Ich kannte die ganzen Jahre immer nur „Spin spin sugar“ (habe die Maxi-CD) und hatte mich nicht weiter für diese Band interessiert. Über IAMX und Chris Corner bin ich nun auf dieses Album gestoßen und richtig begeistert. Ich bin froh, dass von „Spin spin sugar“ und „6 Underground“, gegenüber der Originalpressung, die Single-Versionen vorhanden sind. Die originale Album-Version von SSS gefällt mir gar nicht, ist aber natürlich Geschmacksache.
Ich hätte das Album gerne noch als Vinyl, aber aktuell leider überall ausverkauft. Die Musik ist richtig schön zum Genießen.
Klare Kaufempfehlung!

C'est le meilleur album de Sneaker Pimps. Dès la première chanson "Low place like home", on est envoûté par cette mélodie hors du temps sur laquelle la voix charmeuse et sensuelle de Kelli Dayton vient se poser tout en douceur. Et le pire est que ça continue tout au long de l'album jusqu'au dernier titre "How do". C'est du trip hop de haut niveau comme on en faisait au siècle dernier (remember Earthling, Smoke City, Esthero, Morcheeba, Portishead,...). C'est aérien, éthéré, bien rythmé avec des beats down-tempo à la fois trippants et d'une languide sensualité et quelques riffs de guitares (Chris Corner) qui se tirent la bourre avec des textures électroniques (Liam Howe) du plus bel effet. Un album qui commence à dater mais qui a superbement bien vieilli. La preuve : plus de 20 ans après sa sortie, je l'écoute avec un plaisir difficilement dissimulable!
