この二人のデュオアルバムは数点ありますが、これが一番安かったので買いました(笑)しかし、これほど素晴らしいとは思わなかった。二人の音楽的対話はまさに絶品と言うべきで、バックにベースもドラムもなく、一見物足りなく感じるかもしれませんが、あにはからんや、その青白い炎のようなやり取りはまさにジャズそのもの。聞き終えた後は静謐な感動と満足感を覚えます。わたしは少々ジャズギターをたしなむのですが、ジョーのギターは本当に素晴らしい、その繊細な音使いにはため息が出そうで、まさに枯淡の境地です。録音も良く、たった二人でやっているとは思えないほどの奥行きと広がりがあります。間違いなく名盤と言えるでしょう。

　エラの声の質はそれぞれ個人の価値観が影響して好き嫌いがあるかもしてないですが，私は若い頃のエラよりも７０年代のエラの方が好きです。彼女の声は年を経るごとに厚みがまして表現力に磨きがかかっていると思います。ジョーのギターもべたつかず適度にアクセントを付けていてエラの良いお供をしていると思います。おすすめのトラックはMoonlight in Vermontです。エラのオペラハウスのライブ盤にもあるトラックですが，このアルバムのヴァージョンは若いときに比べて歌詞を噛み締めるように歌っています。これはキャリアを積んだ歌手にしかできないことです。また，この曲に限らずシンプルでも印象に残るジョーのギターのイントロやソロは秀逸です。
　話が変わりますが，エラ英語は分かりやすいです。彼女は一つ一つの言葉に抑揚をつけて歌っています。例えばnever という語句には誰もが分かるくらいアクセントを付けています。歌は聞き取りにくいといわれますが，彼女の場合はそんなことがありません。むしろ、歌の原点である言葉を伝えることの大切さが分かってきます。
　声は個人差があって一概にどの声がいいといえませんが，エラを聴いて虜になった人は一度試してみてください。

分野を問わずギターの音色が好みで、難波のタワーXXでいかにも「パブロ」レーベルのジャケットの雰囲気と
ジョーパスのギター、エラフィッツジェラルドのボーカルというシンプルさが気に入って求めました。
率直に言って、このCDはエラの声がその人に合うかどうかだと思います。
彼女がハーレムのアポロ劇場でコンテストで入賞しチック・ウェッブ楽団に入り歌った若い時期のシンプルな歌い方は
ともかく、個人的に中年過ぎてのブルース色濃い節回しがちょっとした部分だがどうしても耳にかかって好きになれない。

ジョーパスの爪弾くギターは静かな夜に流れる音楽として期待通りのものでしたが、気になっていたエラのボーカルの
節回しが、歌詞への思い入れの強い（日本で言う演歌みたいで、声の質も私には…）、今いちしっくり来ません。

Adoro i vecchi Pablo, le cover in bianco e nero, la musica di molti vecchi leoni del jazz. Ella col chitarrista Pass realizzano alcune incisione, ne abbiamo qui una parte di grande godimento. Pass non è cambiato, è dolce, musicale, perfetto. Ma Ella tantissimo. La voce è "da camera", assorta e bellissima ma lontana dal suo famoso swing anche urlato e incontenibile. Pulsa lo stesso amore per la "sua" musica, il jazz, ma le linee melodiche sono tenui, trattenute, cesellate. Forse per la prima volta, condivise con un ascoltatore che sta loro accanto, attento ad ogni respiro, pronto ad ogni ricordo, seduto tra le note che scivolano dai solchi del disco. Memoria, nostalgia... Il tempo è passato e mai invano.

I feel guilty and sacrilegious criticising anything to do with one of the greatest singers of the 20th century and the all-time master of masters of jazz guitar. But, leaving aside that the sound quality of this CD isn't the greatest, if you want great stuff from either of them, I'd suggest Ella Fitgerald's "Great American Songbook" collections, and just about any of Joe Pass's solo albums. In fact, I don't just suggest them, I wholeheartedly recommend them. Maybe this album is for completists or maybe I'm over-fussy.

Another amazing session by the immortal duet. Joe as always strikes listeners by his incredible ability to fit some crazy virtuosic stuff into an accompaniment and to lead a melody of his own that perfectly suites the original vocal part, whereas Ella's voice got just so much more interesting with age. Her talent for acing any tune in the world is now flavored with a profoundness and an intriguing touch of...experience or mystery if you will. The chemistry that comes out of their playing together is quite rare, something that you would call "in the best traditions of The Great Jazz".
Also read in some of the comments that she's out of the tune in a few songs, which made me wonder which world that was in. Ella was somebody who could never miss a single note. In fact, in some sense she was inventing them. I'm sure she even snored "in tune", if you know what I mean. 5 stars, one of the best duets in the history of jazz.

la colaboración entre ambos fue de 4 albunes de estudio y otros diversos en directo. Cualquiera de esos cuatro de estudio, incluído éste, son fantásticos y maravillosos. Un Pass en estado de gracia y una Ella entrañable, muy a gusto. Ambos se entremezclan como uno solo.
Son todo un clásico, que gusta por igual a los amantes del jazz, como a los que quieren iniciarse.
Por lo demás, ésta edición remasterizada a 24 bits es simplemente perfecta.
No puede faltar a nadie que le guste simplemente lo bueno de verdad
