「カルメン」も「アルルの女」も、重厚でシンフォニックな表現。明るさや洒脱さはあまり感じられない。
「カルメン」の木管陣、とくにフルートのジュリアス・ベイカーが絶品で、「間奏曲」はほれぼれする。一方、
「アルルの女」のメヌエットのフルートは、ちょっと苦労している。別人が吹いているのではないかな。

どちらの組曲も、クラシックに無関心な方でもどこかで聞いた事があるだろう名曲ですよね。
それを我らがレニーの指揮で見事に演奏したCDです。

This amazing CD has both of my favorite Bizet suites, the Carmen and L'Arlesienne Suites I and II, performed by the New York Philharmonic with the great Leonard Bernstein, all for the low price of $7.98! What more could you ask for? This CD should be a part of every classical music CD collection, and would serve as a great gift to those new to classical music or Georges Bizet, as it is loved the world over. Amazon currently has some of the best classical music compilations on CD for under $10, so why not add a few to your collection and receive free shipping in the deal? I am considering buying a second one for when I've worn out my present copy, which often happens to my favorite CDs. Highly recommended for everyone!

je pensais trouver là une excellente interprétation des "suites de carmen" mais je dois dire que le compte n'y est pas. le son est médiocre et l'introduction des toréadors est d'une lenteur extrême. Sur une dizaine de versions que je possède, c'est le seul chef à la jouer si lentement. Il faudra plutôt aller voir du côté de Markevitch ou de Stokowski pour de très bonnes versions.

Nice music, but NOT what I was expecting. I kept it anyway, but title is very misleading. did not have the music from Carmen that I recalled

What fantastic young composer! Surprizingly, he is not more popular than Mozart or other famous composers. The entire CD is filled with songs I've loved for decades and never realized it was Bizet who composed! My absolute favorites are track #11 Carmen Suite: Changing of Guards, and #12 Carmen Suite No. 2: Danse boheme. It's a tremendous recording for a small price. Every song in the CD is a hit!!
