From Kiss to the Sex Pistols, and Patti Smith to Neil Young, nostalgia was one of rock's biggest enemies in 1996. It was pervasive and suffocating, but it was also seductive as hell, providing it pushed the right buttons. The self-titled debut by Imperial Drag certainly pushed mine, bringing me back to the days of my Riunite-fueled early-teen rebellion and a soundtrack consisting of cock-rock riffs and posturing (Ted Nugent and Led Zeppelin), glam hooks and gender-bending (T-Rex), and full-blown prog-rock heaviosity (ELP's stomping synthesizers). By revisiting these unheralded and now mostly unloved sounds with such unapologetic flair and flamboyance, Roger Joseph Manning and Eric Dover almost redeemed themselves for the smug power pop they used to in their Jellyfish days. Imperial Drag is the album Urge Overkill should have made to follow Saturation, and the one Redd Kross should have released to top Third Eye. Of course, it comes complete with long, greasy hair, wild bell bottoms, over-the-top lyrics ("I'm unoriginal, it's fine... I've got a boner for your zodiac sign"), and bona-fide fist-in-the-air anthems ("Boy or a Girl," "Overnight Sensation")-the better to fuel the way-back machine.Jim Derogatis

ニヒルな雰囲気かと思えば所々にポップの影が垣間見える
とにかくカッコいい、Jellyfishの影を追い求めている自分のような人間にはぴったりであった

アンディ・スターマーを追いかけてきたのであればPUFFYの「Nice.」を聴くべし

元JERRYFISHのメンバー、マニングとドーヴァーの二人が結成したバンドのデヴ-作にして最終作。全体的にはグラムロックｻｳﾝﾄﾞで音がぐるぐる回っているような感じのものでJERRYFISHのときとは又違った意味で摩訶不思議なポップｻｳﾝﾄﾞが展開されていく。本作でバンドは消滅してしまうのだが、最高のTRIP’N　ROLLが世の中に残された。

タイトルの通り、「It's Five O'clock Somewhere」が好きな方は必聴。
個人的に天才的だと思っている、あのエリック・ドーヴァーの歌声が聴ける数少ない作品です。
Jellyfishの流れなのでSlash's Snakepitとはファン層が全くかぶっていないと思われますが、ギターリフ中心でかなりロックしてる。メタル好きでも問題なくいける音です。
英国音楽の影響を受けたアメリカンギターロックって感じかな。Weezerとかを想像してもらったらわかりやすいかも。
とにかく曲がいい！

これはポップおたく集団＝ポップマエストロ＝驚きののジェリーフィッシュの展開型バンドだ。アナログシンセがいいポイントにがちっと切り込んでくるおいしいアルバムです。古いアープなんかがびしばし出てきます。シンセはロジャーの趣味ではないのか。これは９０年代によみがえらせたグラムロックということができる。しかも、かなりロマンテックでユーモアとひねりが加えられているところが通をうならせる。ルックスもかなりいいので女性ファンが多いのも彼等の強みだ。さて彼等のかっこいいとことはどこかというと、歌詞なのですね＝＝This isn't a discotheque darlin, this is a theatre of the stars.....うわ～～かっこよすぎ＝曲の間にこんなのいれるのはしゃれてんな～～。これはかれらなりのシンセフェチぶりとシンセに対するこだわり＝美学がきちんと出ているすんげえアルバムだ。来日公演はかなり盛り上がったのにな。くらげ軍団はやはり日本にたくさんいるのだ。おすすめは７）切なく甘酸っぱい＝ILLUMINATE　だ。押し寄せる心の波動に君は耐えられる
のか？？乙女達をとりこにするこれがアルバムなのである。

A friend lent me this disc about two months ago, and I just had to have my own copy. I bought three copies! A throwback to great '70's music, BOWIE (ZIGGY), T. REX, E.L.P./DEEP PURPLE ish (keyboards), and an ALICE COOPER like writer (ERIC DOVER, who played on and co-wrote most of ALICE COOPERS "THE EYES OF ALICE COOPER", another great hard rockin' set of songs). If you like the above mentioned artists, you will like this collection of songs, the only record this band produced commercially. ERIC DOVER put this project on hold to sing on SLASH's "SNAKE PIT" disc, and then did the tour, then went back and completed this product, and a small tour, then moved on to play w/ ALICE.

I am amazed that no-one has reviewed this album. It is a little known gem, and definitely ranks in my top 5 albums ever. A band featuring Roger Manning from Jellyfish and Eric Dover from Slash's Snake Pit, this is a 14 track romp of the catchiest balls out in your face psychedelec glam rock you will ever hear. The whole thing definitely has an "old school" 70's feel, you can hear the valve amps driving the guitars and bass, huge fat flappy drums mixed with moogs, hammonds & rhodes keyboards. From the opening "Zodiac sign" with its great keyboard riff, swirling guitars and amazing harmonies through to Dandelion, a haunting acoustic corker of a track that could have been written in the deep south in the 1920's, this album never fails to deliver. Every single track on it is mind blowing. Tuneful, clever, inventive. Everyone I have ever played this too is left speechless. This album sounds like T-Rex on steroids. Unfortunately this album is now out of production, so buy it why there are still a few knocking around. Second hand, for 3 or so quid it will be the best bargain you have ever had, believe me, and your music collection will be better for it.

What a band !!! For fans of T-Rex , Roxy etc . Members are now in the Lickerish Quartet who I also highly recommend . Boy Or A Girl is a genuine lost classic track that deserves to be heard by all music fans . Keyboard player Roger Manning was a member of Jellyfish & contributes on a lot of material by Beck . Thumbs up !!!!

I picked this up as a fan of Roger Joseph Manning, Jr., who helped form this in the years following the demise of Jellyfish. Given the context of its production, it leans a little more to the alternative end of a power pop-y sound. One highlight that I didn't expect was hearing Zodiac Sign - I immediately did a double-take, since it sounded exactly like a song from the Anime series Cowboy Bebop - and sure enough the latter had sampled this song.
