This one should pique the interest of Blues music collectors. Buddy Guy and Junior Wells acoustic- what's not to like? Of the studio recordings I've heard of them playing acoustic (one was called "Alone and acoustic"), I like this one the best. I had a chance to see them live years ago and they tore it up. The recording happened with short notice, as Michael Cuscana explains in the notes. It was one of those sessions where they came together quickly just for this one off record, and Cuscana not really knowing if fruit would bear given the situation... they had not played with Mance (who is on piano), and that it was Buddy's baby so to speak, and Junior Wells being his usual cantakerous self. Cuscana says he was pretty happy with how it all turned out. The looseness of the proceedings works both for and against the final result...basically this is a good acoustic blues jam session, nothing more and nothing less. Junior Wells blows some great harp, and Buddy Guy plays great acoustic lead guitar....and when a bluesman starts singing about his woman's wig, you know it's got to be good. The recording quality and mastering is good, not great. Thanks to Hip-O music for issuing this rare and collectible title on cd. Recommended.
