Found this now favorite CD while watching an interesting Ray Liotta film called "Slow Burn". A character in that film is a fan of the one he calls "Sister Irma Thomas". Being from Wisconsin, I have to admit I searched under Sister Thomas....then wised up and found this incredible CD. It just resonates with maybe not heart-ache but feelings of the heart. She feels. And all the musicians on this are great. Ordering another copy now for a friend who heard mine and loved it.
UPDATE 10-23-2014: Continues to be one of my favorite CDs. This and Elvis Presley's Gospel. Elvis Ultimate Gospel

This is a short but stellar set of classic 1960's New Orleans Soul by one of the most underated yet greatest singers of her generation. The Sweet Soul Queen shines. Liked I mentioned before this isn't a complete set of her work but much of her well known & best music is here for you to sway to. Her original version of the song Time is on My Side just blows the Rolling Stones version to pieces. If you enjoy really good vintage Soul and R&B then Irma's your girl. A gem of a disc.

Irma Thomas deserves far more recognition than she has received. The New Orleans native has an incredible voice that represents one of the many faces of the cities' music. She has character in her voice, and I highly recommend watching her performance and interview on the Dick Clark Bandstand from decades ago on youtube. One of my favorite songs off this CD is Hittin On Nothing, which is funky and heavily in the groove. Really shows her range.
