I've waited so long for this...the complete recording reissued on vinyl. A trip in my wayback machine brings me back to the old Tower Records Jazz department at their dearly-departed Broadway store, where I purchased this so many years ago. Of course, time and CDs relegated the vinyl to the dustbin. Fortunately, there are second acts in America. This recording has long been available in a truncated version; an import only complete edition surfaced and proved quite expensive. I recently purchased a turntable and uncovered this edition. Neither purchase was in vain. To truly appreciate both Metheny's artistry and Manfred Eicher's production, short of the original pressing, THIS is the edition to purchase.
An early Pat Metheny with assists from Charlie Haden, Jack DeJohnette, Dewey Redman and Mike Brecker. This is fairly straight jazz with a heavy emphasis on the sax with Redman and Brecker taking turns and collaborating throughout. Side 3 gets a little exploratory.
