The Stones began their transitional period, from reinvigorating R&B standards (on their early albums) to reinventing rock & roll (on the brilliant four-album streak beginning with Beggars Banquet), on this underrated 1967 collection. Even the songs that didn't become smash hits, such as the speed demon "Miss Amanda Jones" and the honky-tonking "She Smiled Sweetly," are more than curiosities despite experimental touches with organ, sitar, and kazoo. Mick Jagger proves, on the psychedelic "Yesterday's Papers" and "Ruby Tuesday," that he can sing a sexy ballad even if he's incapable of crooning. Of course, the opening piano-driven rocker "Let's Spend the Night Together" sounds as fresh and sexual as it ever did. --Steve Knopper

I already have this album on SACD, mono cd and stereo cd and I wanted to experience the version released outside the UK. It definitely benefits from both sides of the contemporary single Ruby Tuesday added unfortunately at the omission of some other tracks. A variation in tracks brings about a whole different listening experience.
Sound quality is excellent. Very pleased with this and am now looking to purchase the alternative version of Aftermath.

Es un CD normal, DSD Remastered, no es un SACD, ni un híbrido ni nada parecido. Me parece un engaño vender algo como SACD y vender un CD normal que dice que es DSD remastered nada más. El disco suena bien de todos modos, buen disco.

I'll leave the musical reviews to Stones experts.

This is my first experience with a DSD re-mastered CD. As I was expecting to receive an SACD disc, I was less than thrilled and more than sceptical about what I did receive. I wasn't expecting much. I decided to try the disc anyways, and was quite surprised with what I heard. It's probably fair to say that while likely not equaling the sound of a true SACD disc, this DSD re-mastered CD sounds pretty good indeed. it really captures the spirit and energy of this great band. All the rough, and dare I say, ragged edges of the performance are played back really well. The enjoyment level listening to this music was through the roof.

DSD re-mastering seems to result in a more detailed, and at the same time, less trashy sound compared to a CD with conventional mastering. The inherent CD grain signature seems reduced quite a bit, for a smoother more natural sound. Considering the original master tapes are nearly 50 years old, it is quite interesting, if not amazing how pleasing the final sound is, as well as revealing the music so clearly and in such an enjoyable manner.

The other factor is that a true SACD disc will cost well over $40 or $50, not $16 as is the case here. As well, $16 for a disc with DSD re-mastering is quite low.

The bottom line is, if you must have a true SACD, check out the same company's catalog for that format. Otherwise, for a reasonable price, get this disc. I suspect most people will find the sound more satisfying than a standard CD. I know for certain I plan to get more DSD titles if the price is right.
