Ever since Boise, Idaho, trio Built to Spill emerged on national radar with its major label release Perfect from Now On (Warner), its earlier recordings are infused with a certain prediscovery mystique. On 1994's There's Nothing Wrong with Love, the roots of Built to Spill's shimmering orchestral arrangements are present, but with a distinctly tattered edge. Frontman Doug Martsch bounds from moody balladry to primal screams, often in the same songs. Add the crunch of Brett Nelson's guitar, and you wipe the sheen off 12 songs that would be just plain pretty, if not for their garage rock soul. --Nick Heil

ﾋﾞﾙﾄ･ﾄｩ･ｽﾋﾟﾙのインディー時代最後の作品となる本作。
彼らの一風変わったひねくれたポップセンスは特筆すべき
モノであると思う。
ジャケットのイメージ通り、やわらかく爽やかな印象ではあるが、
彼ら特有の持ち味がいかんなく発揮されており、やはりダグ・マー
トッシュのソングライティングの才能は生半可なものではない事が
よくわかるアルバムだ。シンプルな音作りである分、後続のメジャー
作品より潔い印象がある。
思わず口ずさんでしまう様な親しみやすさと、奇異な自立心を感じる
彼らの音が私はたまらなく好きだ。もちろんこのアルバムが一番のお気に
入りであるのは言うまでもありません。お薦めします。

ストレンジな転調に、絶妙にゆる〜いグルーヴ感と間。基本ジャングリーで、たまには怒ってハードになったり、時には哀しくてむせび泣いたり、ある時はおもちゃ箱（？）から演奏しているかのようなギター。
ストリングスも入ってフォーキーだったり、ハードコアだったり、かわいいピュアポップだったり、二ールヤングだったり、いろんな曲調、転調だけど不思議とどの曲にも同じ空気感を感じることができます。ごく自然に体に染み込む音で、音からの風景や情景なんかも浮かびます。それがまたなんでもない日常的な風景、情景なんで感動してしまいます。。。生涯忘れられないアルバムで、これ以上のギターロックアルバムを今のところ知りません。決して一般的には有名なバンドではないかもしれませんが、私のように感じている方は少なくはないと思います。こんなアルバムめったに作れるものじゃありません。傑作です。

After hearing Built to Spill around my friends' houses for quite a while I decided I should buy some of their albums. My first two were "Keep it Like a Secret" and "There's Nothing Wrong With Love," as I had heard great songs from both. Right off the bat, "Keep it Like a Secret" seemed to be a perfect CD, great for sitting down and listening to actively, but also mellow enough to be great background music for everything. "There's Nothing Wrong With Love" didn't jump out at me at first the way "Keep it Like a Secret" did, but after a bit of listening thoroughly to the entire disc it has grown on me and is now one of my favorites. Bottom line, this is a great CD with very mellow music, great guitar work and catchy lyrics that stick in your mind. Built to Spill is a great band, and this is a great example of their work.
Favorite Tracks: "In the Morning," "Reasons," "Car," and "Distopian Dream Girl"

There's Nothing Wrong With Love is Doug Marstch's attempt at writing radio friendly pop-type music on about 4/5th the tracks of the record. While he succeeds fantastically, this is just too unique of music for the time. Ultimately it went mostly unnoticed. Ever wonder where Modest Mouse and everything after came from? Yup, right here. The lyrics are deep, meaningful, and introspective. The rhythms and chord progressions are so great, and the timing of his strums on said chords (this is the highlight of the album, applies to all songs). Phenomenal. Solos are unique, full of emotion, and littered amongst just about every song. Great, too, because the anticipation of the final solo of the album, on "Israel's Song". The first note swell of that solo proceeds to send the album off with a bang. Highly recommended top 20 90s album. BUY BUY BUY!

This is the album that bridged the experimental sound from 1993's 'Ultimate Alternative Wavers' and the innovative, epic sound of 1997's 'Perfect From Now On'. The 12 [13] songs featured on 1994's 'There's Nothing Wrong With Love' are crisp pop songs, ranging in length from just under two minutes, to nearly six minutes. They are not as vague and do not feature repetitive song structures as often found in UAW. The lyrics here are less personal and showcase Doug Martsch's ability to establish double meanings for songs, giving the listener the option to choose what the song means to him/her. An example of this is the song 'Cleo', about a baby being inside the whom, but it can also arguably be about Martsch's band beginning to leave the comforts of native Idaho and begin touring, and becoming an all around well known band, or even, any experience of leaving a comfort zone for a new world.

This record sounds more coordinated and focused than the band's debut, and showed an apparent maturity in the band's songwriting.
