I love the gentle acoustic melody of the early Pentangle - their blend of British traditional folk with jazz and blues set them apart from the more aggressive folk-rock of Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span (although I love those guys, too). Pentangle broke up for a decade or so, and the only later album I'd heard was "In the Round" which seemed to replace the fluid, acoustic jazz and folk rhythmic feel of their early days with a more rigid, less melodic rock feel. Although not terrible, I didn't really like that CD as much as their early stuff, and I kind of wrote of Pentangle's later years, until recently I decided to give this one a try. And, although a little more straight-forward and rock-leaning than the old days, this is still a lovely, folky album. I'm really glad I got it and will be collecting their other post-reunion stuff (and giving "In the Round" another chance!), The olde-English folksongs and Jackie's lovely voice are as charming as the old days! (Note that one of these songs, "Bramble Briar," is yet another recording of "Bruton Town" which already appeared on their debut album and again - live - on their second album, "Sweet Child" - seems kind of redundant!).
