Amazonレビュー

On DJ Cam's third full-length, he more than ever proves that he can do it all: lazy breaks, old-school jungle, and even the odd speed- garage tune. What's even more impressive than his quantity of stylistic references is his quality of execution. Prime examples of this high standard and diversity are "Broadcasting Live," featuring New York City's Channel Live; "Baron Samedi"; "Danger Interlude"; "Hardcore Freestyle," featuring Otis; and "Pressure," featuring Homebru. If you're one of those hip-hop purists, try on the latest Wu-Wear for size; if you like a bit more flavor, sample some of these hot French-fried beats. Formidable. --Daniel Shumate

DJ Cam is better liked for Mad Blunted Jazz, and Substances, but it's my opinion that his style of music fits hip hop perfectly. You may not care for rap, and there are good reasons for not liking the genre, as the people who are in charge of mainstream music and tastes don't really seem to care what they put out as long as it sells. These MC's are fairly unknown to most people and yet Channel Live, Silver Bullet, Dado, Otis, and a few others demonstrate that all is not yet lost. Though to be realistic this music was made more than 10 years ago and there are still problems in the industry, not all to be blamed on rappers. This music still stands out as one of Cam's and hip hops best efforts, and in my opinion in a world of 50 cents and Ludicriss, this recording is a reminder that all was not lost, not so long ago. There is also turntablism for those of us who remember what hip hop is supposed to be.

For fans of his early work (most notably "Mad Blunted Jazz", now classic), this record may seem like a bit of a sellout on his DJ+trip-hop stylings. However, if you track his work from project to project (compilation appearances included), you could probably see this project coming a mile away. Half of the record features rappers (of varying qualities), which is NOT what you've been coming to Cam for, but hey, a guy's allowed to branch out a little bit, right?
Well, only if it's good stuff. This record has me torn down the middle. On one hand, there's some good instrumental tracks. Not many, but a few. Then, there's a couple of decent beats and soundscapes marred by rapping we can get anywhere, which is grating. I come to Cam for instrumental work mostly, and this album really just came off like an attempt (much like his stylistically schizophrenic Loa Projects) to show the industry that he can do other types of stuff too, and hey, "send me some producing jobs!"
If you're interested in trying Cam out, go with "Mad Blunted Jazz", then buy anything else you MIGHT be interested in used, if at all. If I wanted a rap record, I wouldn't have picked it up at all.
