１８年前のアルバム。クインシージョーンズのレーベルからリリース。なので予算ががんがんかかっている＝これはつまりトミーリピューマ＋ラスタイトルマン＋ジャム＆ルイスなわけで、この体制はまるでチャカカーンと同じだ。結果はそこそこの売り上げに終わったようだがどう売り出していいのかクインシー自身が迷っているようですね。声と言うダナマイトボイスを生かすも殺すもプロデューサーの方向づけ次第。中ヒットなナンバーが多いのが特色。このモンスターシンガーのいい部分を引き出すことには成功していないようだ。１０点中５点

パティ・オースチンの8作目。当時はクインシー・ジョーンズに重用され、「クインシーの秘蔵っ子」と言われていた彼女ですが、本作でもコンテンポラリーな作りのサウンドをバックに、どんな曲でもしっかりものにしてオールマイティな歌唱をのびのびと披露しています。強烈なパンチ力はない代わりに、大げさでなく、パワフルでありながらじっくりと歌を聞かせてくれるのが彼女の良いところです。

R&B. Soul. Jazz. Funk. Pop. Whatever label Patti Austin delivers. I often think of Patti as a more "sophisticated" Donna Summer. While Summer is obviously more overt in her sexual deliveries. Austin can certainly evoke some erotic attention.
GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER is a raucuous, mainly dance-oriented collection. And you can't help but tap your feet to these upbeat songs. The CD opens with a cappella voices TALKIN BOUT MY BABY. Next Austin asserts it's a BIG BAD WORLD. Get out the fire extinguisher for the sizzling THE HEAT OF HEAT. The mellowest track IF I BELIEVED soars with Patti's impassioned vocal. Dancing shoes back on for the infectious HONEY FOR THE BEES. Austin enters Hall & Oates territory for the title track and gets her infectious hook into us willing victims. Next up: ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN HERE--and you don't flinch at all. Patti goes breathy sotto voce in ONLY A BREATH AWAY and when she solemnly attests that SUMMER IS THE COLDEST TIME OF YEAR, you believe her.
Yes, this is an irresistibly delightful CD and only taps the immense reservoir of Patti Austin's talents!

Finally, one of my all time favorite Patti Austin recordings on compact disc! Song selection is top notch, along with Patti's flawless delivery. There are no duds here, just cue it from track one till the end. Sound quality is awesome, and i should know since i still own the original vinyl release! Stand-outs for me include, "big bad world", "honey for the bees" and the title track. Packaging and delivery from Amazon was beyond reproach, they are now my dealer of choice for all my hard to find releases. Now back to Ms. Austin's performance: warm, full bodied, tonally accurate and just a joy to hear! It's too bad that after all these years she, in my opinion, hasn't gotten her 'props' as an american treasure. Pick this one up, you won't regret it!
