4ADに紛れ込んでしまったハードロック小僧たちだと思います。ヘビーなリズムなのに、CureやNamesのような清涼感溢れるギターが心に残ります。でも、本当にすごいのは、前作とうって変わって、メロディメーカーとしての才能が開花したこと。ほとんどの曲がシングルになってしまうでしょう。特に1.Someone's Calling と5.I Melt With You の2曲は素晴らしく、この2曲だけで元を取った気になります。

4ADの初期は、バウハウスに代表されるように、よくも悪くもサイケで暗いレーベル・イメージでした。その中から彼等は突然変異的に明るく踊れる曲をつくり始めたわけです。今から考えると、アメリカの市場を意識したレーベルのコントロールだったのかもしれないです。でも、これだけ粒のそろった曲を書いて演奏した彼等の力こそ恐るべし、と思います。若さがあって大変よいです。ボーナストラックもそれぞれ聞きどころだらけです。

４ＡＤ全盛期のバンド。他のバンドに比較して評価が低すぎるのは明るさとポップのせい？アメリカにてヒットしたことも日本ではマイナスに思われているかもしれません。本当に良い曲が満載のアルバム。１ｓｔは暗さを引きずりすぎ（レーベルカラーには近い）、これ以降はよりポップになり過ぎでこれも今ひとつ。１４年ぶりに新作リリースとの事、久々に聴き良さにあらためて気が付きました。

I sent for Modern English After the Snow because it is a lovely album and I only have it on vinyl, however when it arrived the case was Modern English the disc inside was Eddie Money - whoever he is - and I am in the process of sending it back which no doubt will cost me a lot of delivery money but hey ho. Should anyone be lucky enough to get this album they will certainly enjoy it, not a bad track on it. I have only given it one star because of the process not the actual album

This is the reissue of After The Snow. I have had the original CD since the 80s, but purchased this for the extra tracks which are interesting, but not mind blowing. I have one issue with this release. There are 3 versions of Life In The Gladhouse. There is the original and two others that are both inferior. The inferior versions are an extended one and a shortened one (with the intro cut out). From the original line-up, they removed the original Life In The Gladhouse and listed it as a bonus track at #13. The crappy version with cut intro they inserted at #2 as if that was what appeared on the original CD. No one wants inferior bonus tracks mixed into the original release while they are playing the CD through.

Did someone simply get confused and mix the tracks up OR did someone take it upon himself to swap out songs because he personally has poor taste?

Though I already owned this record on vinyl, when I heard there was a reissue of the first two Modern English albums on vinyl, I jumped at the chance. I'm a vinyl junkie and a Modern English fan... My understanding is that this white vinyl edition (and the green edition of Mesh & Lace) are limited to 500 each and they are numbered as such. Drastic Plastic Records has done an amazing job with this release. Mastered for vinyl by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio Faithfully as well was what appears to be cleaned up original cover art, this album is a beautiful piece of art that reflects the quality of artistry on the record itself. I'm glad I was able to get both...get them now while you can...
