"Lil' Red Boat" sails on a buoyant melody that's helmed by wistful yet optimistic vocals. "I Love You" beats a prideful drum by employing a spare arrangement that taps an acoustic piano to support the tender lyrics. "I'm in Love with You" is a beautiful tune spiced by bluesy harmonica by Stevie Wonder, who lends the track a down-home feeling. "Deeper" weaves a rhythmic folk tale of hope to the cadence of a chipper, bouncy tempo. Emotionally, angst competes with promise on many tracks, but the set's positive force always prevails. --J.R. 彼女の生い立ち等はよく知らないのだが、どうやら、教会で歌っていたらしい。
それにしては、声が太くも無く、癖もあまり無い。
しかしそれは、オリジナリティが無いという意味ではない。
彼女の声はとても洗練されていて、言うならば、クールな可愛らしさ
といったところである。
そして何より聞くほどに癖になるのだ。
曲自体も、ジャム＆ルイスと本人によって書かれているらしく、
素晴らしい出来である。
彼女の歌声を壊すことなく、うまく引き立てている。
さすがは、ジャム＆ルイスといったところ。
なかなかの傑作である。

ジャム&ルイスプロデュースの中でも個人的には最高傑作。'80代にだしたchangeのchange of heartが一番だったけど、軽く抜いてるでしょう。商業的にはあまりヒットしていないのでだれ?て感じだけど歌声もよくずっと聴いています。しかも何回聴いても飽きない。正統派R&B好きには絶対お勧め。こういういつまでも聴けるいいアルバムって本当に珍しいと私は思います。絶対に買いです!!いや買うべき!

透き通ったこの声は最高です。
Amel Larrieux　に相当する素晴らしい歌声が聴けます。
良い曲は決して多いとはいえませんが、
Whenever You Cry
など、良い曲があり、このような声が聞ける歌手は希少ですので必聴です。

Her voice reminds you instantly of Janet Jackson but with better refinement. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produced the album so it has a Janet sound and feel to it. They're the types of songs a mature Janet should be singing today but she isn't.. If Janet had made this album she would've taken it to Number One. Fortunately for all of us the voice Janet wishes she had is owned by Angel Grant. I only wish the album could have taken Angel to the top of the Adult Contemporary Charts back then. I actually think the cover itself went against it making it look too much like instead a New Age album. Sadly, the studio also for some unknown reason never targeted the album appropriately to Jazz and Adult Contemporary radio stations. The album peaked at #89 on the Billboard's Hot R&B chart. However, "Lil Red Boat" peaked at #48 on the R&B singles chart and stayed there for an impressive 11 weeks in a row. Janet as we all know is pregnant at 50 and still trying to sing like she thinks she's 25. She can learn a lot from Angel Grant about growth and maturity in her music. Surprisingly, Angel did not release her next album for another 12 years. Back in 2010 she released " My Journey Back." Impressively, Angel writes, produces and arranges that come back album. Sadly, it failed to reach the heights of her original Album and surprisingly we've haven't really heard that much from her since. Occasionally, she does make special appearances at very select musical events. (SEE PICS) However, this review isn't about her ups and downs in her musical career. It's about this one moment in time when her debut Album skyrocketed her angelic voice onto the history books of music.. She's an artist who throughout the years maintains her loyal fan base like myself. What's really exciting though is that she continuously earns new fans every day, who sample her treasured music, courtesy of the modern day means of Amazon Prime.

This CD is timeless!! By far one of the favorites to have in your collection. I first encountered this CD over ten years ago!! And, now to my amazement...I find that I still listen to it! All tracks on this CD will captivate you from beginning to end. No skipping to the next track here! Angel as a rtist presents true musicality and talent that is lacking amongst female artist in the same genre these days. Each song is a appealing to your senses upon first hearing them....sort of transic, meditative, reflective, and a emotional journey. Get the CD and set your ears on a musical journey of balance and happiness........while at the same time getting the house cleaned and/or work done in a relaxed mode!! You may even find yourself dance a little!! I do!
