Not to be confused with the other James Taylor, JTQ are a strange hybrid of Nineties tongue-in-cheek cool and Sixties kitsch, who fashion their a peculiar instrumental blend of funk, mod and acid jazz on Hammond organs. Despite producing several albums of their own composition, Blow Up! shows where their allegiances lie, with a series of classic Sixties cover versions. Their choices are pretty obvious--Bond, Alfie and Mission Impossible to name but a few--but they are delivered with such gusto it doesn't really matter. Unsurprisingly, JTQ were featured on the soundtrack to Austin Powers. With a sound encompassing kitsch, comedy and good fun, they could be pop's version of the International Man of Mystery themselves. --Amber Cowan
