演奏は星五つ。ただし表題のとおり何曲か途中で切れる。このフェードアウトが残念。ブルーノートレーベルには、昔からこうした途中カットが多い。ブルーノートが多くのジャズファンに愛されているレーベルであることは承知していますが、この点だけは、極めて残念。

デビュー当時はマイルスも認めた逸材とまで言われましたが、最近はマイナーレーベル暮らしが続いています。これはブルーノートの三枚目です。またメジャーで活躍して欲しい一人です。中古で買いましたが状態はあまり良くなかったです。ジャケットの痛みも酷く、ディスクのキズもたくさんありました。でもそんなことは関係なく愛聴しております。できれば再発して欲しいです。

After a lifetime of marvelling at the wonders of the great tenor modernists, why should I bother with the contemporary crop? Surely they'll just be pale imitations of their Olympian predecessors? Well, they often are, but Rick Margitza is definitely worth hearing. Yes, he's drenched in Coltrane (how can any tenor player not be?) and you'll hear echoes of Rollins, Henderson and (certainly to my ears) Shorter, but he's not slavishly copying these maestros. In short, Rick Margitza is an exciting player with an original voice.

I have enjoyed listening to this CD many times, impressed by the individual solos by all the members, the interplay of the group, the excitement , virtuosity, etc. These are great musicians playing interesting arrangements of well known standards. All the members of this group are "stars" in their own right and can be found on many other recordings. Highly recommended!
