I saw one music video and I bought the album. BTW it has one of the sexist covers I've ever seen. Maybe it's because I went to a catholic school. To get back to the music. I listened to it and became enthralled. I had never heard anything like it. It sits up threre with Feetwood Mac's "Rumours" and Meatloaf's "Bat Of Hell." Now before you freak out I mean it in the sense that EVERY song on this album is GREAT. The others may have GREAT songs, but not every one.. Afterwards, I gave it out as a Christmas gift to evenyone I knew. That's how great I thought it was. After they recorded this, they went on tour. They opened for bands such as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. But unfortunately fame did follow. They were ahead of their time just barely. "Catholic Girls" came out in 1982. A few years later bands such as The Go-Gos came along and reaped the benefits from what Gail and the rest of the band started. Check them our on YouTube. JZ

My first copy of this was a beat-up vinyl LP that I played to death. I loved it then, and I love the new CD version. 'Catholic Girls' is a dynamite blend of raw emotion and intellect, and it captures all the urgency and tidal waves of emotion of adolescence. Great lyrics, great energy, and nice bits of caesura, which is a wonderful under-used dramatic touch in modern music.
The bonus tracks are quite good, but it's hard to compete with the energy and passion of splendid raw adolescent outpourings. Put away your sad whiny singer-songwriters and hyper-aggressive rap and enjoy some great rock 'n roll.

Can't believe this got by me way back when. Bought this one after checking out "Meet the Catholic Girls" and I gotta say the gals maintained their sound and attitude over the years. Mystery as to why success eluded them. Must have been the controversy over their name. This album is full of great pop garage rock sure to get you going.
The original tracks on the CD sound outstanding in their remastered format. However, the new bonus tracks, recorded about 20 years later, relatively stink. They are badly produced and once you've heard one, you've heard them all. For the right price, the quality and sound of the original tracks can make it a good deal.
