La presenza di Barney Kessel mi ha convinto all'acquisto.con l'occasione ho potuto ascoltare la voce si una cantante di cui ignoravo l'esistenza. Non male
Thankfully reissued on CD, to hopefully give this highly underrated jazz singer exposure to a new audience. Her version of "Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered," backed only by Barney Kessel's guitar, is one of the best interpretations of this ballad, and "Love Is a Word For the Blues," in 5/4 time, demonstrates some serious jazz chops. Fans of this and Richards' other albums should check out Maryann Price's solo work. She is an alumnus of Dan Hicks & his Hot List and Asleep Asleep At The Wheel, and on Etched In Swing and Jazzland he voice is uncannily like Richards'. She does "LIAW4TB" on the former, although that was the oly song she'd heard by Richards, long after she'd established her own identity.
This is a superb album by the tragic and underrated Ann Richards. Her version of "You Go to My Head" is unforgettable--it will go to your head! A true masterpiece. To my ears, this album is more powerful and expressive than "Two Much," her album with Stan Kenton.
This remastering by Collectables is superior to the one included in the four-album compilation by Avid Jazz. That compilation includes an unfortunate distortion at the start of "You Go to My Head."
Ann Richards was a great artist; get this album and hear what I mean.
