On their debut album, 1999's Something About Airplanes, Death Cab for Cutie proved there's a reason why Northwest music critics continue to sing their praises. The foursome combined the emo sounds of Modest Mouse and 764-Hero with an inventive, and often sly, sentimentality. It worked wonders, but still sounded a little too lo-fi. Luckily, on We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes the group has figured out all the production nuances that flawed that auspicious debut. The opening "Title Track" begins by sounding both crappy and shallow, but the band is merely pulling your leg; two minutes later, the tune expands into a gorgeous, well-produced masterpiece. The album never looks back. Ben Gibbard's songwriting continues to evolve--"Company Calls" segues into, what else, the slower "Company Calls Epilogue"--while the simple lyrics of "For What Reason" and "405" tell infectious stories that demand repeated listenings. Proof positive the Northwest is still churning out great music. --Jason Verlinde

歌からこぼれる、喜怒哀楽の微熱。

今や立派な人気バンドとなりましたデスキャブフォーキューティのセカンド。
初めて聴いてから随分経ちますが、その輝きは霞むどころか、より心の深くまで届くようになった気さえします。

このアルバムにはメロディしか無い。だから聴き手がメロディを欲する限り、このアルバムは聴き手にとって常に「聴き飽きる」ことの無い名盤となる。美しいソングラインは簡単に時間を超える。聴き手は「これを聴いて感動したいつかの自分」を経由すること無く、感動することが出来る。超名盤。星５つ。

　シアトルはべリンガム出身の泣きメロバンドの2nd album。地元シアトルのインディーレーベル、barsuk recordsからの11枚目のリリース。

　泣きメロ。音数の少ない中、ベンのイノセントな歌声が最大限に膨らんで瑞々しい流れを生み出してます。

　やっぱり大げさじゃないって事は、シンプルにいい。そしてゆったりしていてあったかいです。冬聞くのにぴったり。

　体育の教科書に出てきそうな歌詞カードのヘンテコな絵みたいに、予定調和を少しはずしたヘンテコな曲もあって、その辺がただの泣きメロバンドと言わせないところがあります。

　録音が1stよりも洗練されてます。でも前作のローファイ感の方が好きかな。

　お気に入りはm-1,2,5,6,7,8。

Brilliant early album from the peerless Death Cab For Cutie. A band still cutting its teeth, having got into their later material first, it's evident that this is more gentle guitar-driven with a lack of piano. Nonetheless, packed from start to finish with great tunes with lyrics to match.

Each play reveals a new skin and you'll have a different song running through your mind every day - a definite sign of a top, top album.

I love this album. It's that type where the more you listen to it, the more you love it. It's the type, where the track that drew you to the album is the one you end up liking least, because you end up liking the other songs as well. where, you see the meaning in each song. It's the best type.

This CD by Death Cab really turned me onto them. I first purchased their older Something About Airplane album; and although I liked it, it didn't get me jumping up and down for the band. The first album I found either too slow, or slow with lack of intrigue. This album has just enough mid-paced stuff to mix it up, and ultimately the finest stuff (the slow stuff) is complemented this way. Company Calls and its sequel track are highlights for me. Very fun lyricaly and adictive music. The contrast between the mood and speed of the songs really gets me excited about this band and interested in the music.
If you are into mid-fi, slow indie rock you can't go wrong with this. Really reminds me of Pedro the Lion, maybe Luna if you lose the spacey sounds, maybe Modest Mouse on sedatives (but then again I make weird comparisons.) True music lovers must and will (I'm sure) check this stuff out.
