In the late 1980s, as American house and techno imports flooded Britain and the Acid House movement was sweeping the nation, brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll were busy building Britain's own interpretation of the sound. Named for the illegal "Orbital" raves taking place on London's M1, they dragged their equipment from party to party, playing live PAs of their homegrown dance music to enthusiastic crowds of revelers. Their 1990 single "Chime" was (and still is) the anthem of many a British raver, and their self-titled 1991 debut remains a classic. Opening with the exquisite mid-tempo anthem "Belfast," and containing the "Chime," "Satan," and "Fahrenheit 303" singles, this album captures the innocence and energy of the nascent rave scene. --Matthew Corwine

『 Orbital 1 』の、US盤、通称は『 Yellow（イエロー）』。　おおむね収録曲は上の『 Green 』と変わらないのですが、曲順が違ったり、リミックスであったり、ライヴバージョンでなかったりと、なかなかに手が込んでいます（？）。　
　始まりを告げる"Belfast"が、よりその美しさが強調されていますね。　『 Green 』にはない、映画『 SPAWN （スポーン）』でもお馴染みの "Satan" また、 "Choice" をも収録しているのは大きな差ですね。　"Satan"は、先に『 SPAWN 』で聴いていたので、個人的にそちらのイメージが強いです（笑）。　しかし、逆に映画が良かっただけに純粋に「カッコいい」といえます。　さらに "The Moebius"は、モービーによるリミックスで収録。
　『 Green 』とは収録順番が異なるだけなのですが、各トラックとも、ずいぶんと印象が異なるように思えますね。

When people talk about the great albums of Orbital, they always talk about the brown album or Orbital 2 where Orbital really came into their own or In-Sides which features Orbital at their best in experimentation. However, the "green" album or Orbital 1 should not be overlooked. This is great, happy house music at its finest. Some great tracks abound here including Chime, Ooo Laa, Belfast, and Satan. The last track would have 2 different versions that would pop up on the bonus CD of In-Sides. However, my favorite track may be Speed Freak as it has an absolutely unreal re-mix by one of my all-time favorites and techno God, Moby. This CD is worth buying just for this one track. So, the next time people are trying to tell you what the best Orbital CD is, just sit there and smile and say, "Yea, the brown album and In-Sides are great, but the green album is just as good. It is definitely the most danceable."

Having heard Insides & the Brown CD's, this one being earlier is not as intense. But it's Orbital and in a historical sense, starting with this disc, you can see how they set so many trends in Techno. Still worth owing.
