Inter are a Farnborough indie-rock quartet renowned for (a) releasing one single a year for the past three years, and (b) their almost Goons-esque, quintessential English sense of humour. Their music is best described as Carter USM meets mid-period Beatles with a fair smattering of the buzzsaw guitar of ace punk band the Buzzcocks thrown in (see buoyant single "Speed Racer" and scary "The Great Unknown"). Even if the bass sound on Clockwork-Orange-inspired "Real Horrorshow" does owe a debt the size of Siberia to New Order. Even if their lyrics are all about paranoia, alienation, etc--the usual, one might say. If Inter haven't had a single released on indie cheerleaders Fierce Panda by now, they certainly should have done. Their vibrant, pop-punk music is precisely that illustrious label's favourite sound--lovable, spiky and firmly aimed at "the kids". In all, a rather irresistible romp through small-town Britain, 2000. --Everett True
