Nur soviel- bei diesem Soundtrack handelt es sich um ein Juwel
und gehört in jede Jerry Goldsmith Sammlung.
Die Klangqualität der CD ist sehr gut.

There's a lot of magic on this album. I love this score. It's one of my favorites by Jerry Goldsmith and just a favorite in general. There is something very ethereal about the quality of the music. It's beautifully magical and has an unearthly feel like something that is very fragile and must be treated gently. It mirrors so many of the situations in the film. Walk ever so softly. You never know what may happen next. The score has that same feel of facing the unknown that Goldsmith composed and scored into STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE written just a few years earlier. It seems like ever since STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE Goldsmith's music has become more introspective and soul searching. The main characters in TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE have either lost their way or lost their purpose of being. Goldsmith's music captures this ever so fervently. Hearing Rod Serling's words from his own lips over Marius Constant `s original theme on Track 8 was quite moving and was something of an Elegy to Mister Serling and his creation. I waited many years to get this album on Compact Disc. I was moved when I listened to it and every time since.

Es hat lange gedauert, bis Goldsmiths abwechslungsreicher Score für den Episodenfilm "Twilight Zone - Unheimliche Schattenlichter" offiziell auf CD veröffentlicht wurde - und als es dann endlich soweit war, entsprach das veröffentlichte Material 1:1 dem des LP-Schnitts.

Goldsmith-Fans werden sicher zustimmen: Die frühen 80er Jahre waren eine von Goldsmiths besonders kreativen Schaffensperioden. In einem vergleichsweise kurzen Zeitraum schrieb Goldsmith die jeweils für einen Oscar nominierten Musiken für "Under Fire" und "Poltergeist", auch der wuchtige Score für "First Blood", den ersten der "Rambo"-Filme, stammt aus dieser Periode. Der Kinofilm "Twilight Zone", konzipiert als eine Hommage an die gleichnamige US-TV-Serie, bot Goldsmith Gelegenheit dazu, verschiedenste Facetten zu zeigen - von lyrisch-verträumten Klängen für die Episode, in der Scatman Crothers den Bewohnern eines Altersheims für die Dauer einer kurzen Nacht ihre Kindheit wiedergibt, bis hin zu verstörend wirkenden Passagen für die düstere "Out of Time"-Episode, in der ein unverbesserlicher Rassist am eigenen Leib unter anderem zu spüren bekommt, was es heißt, dem Ku-Klux-Klan in die Hände zu fallen.

In "20.000 Feet" schließlich schlägt Goldsmith ähnliche Töne an wie kurze Zeit später in seinem Score für Joe Dantes "Gremlins" - was insofern kein Wunder ist, als auch John Lithgow als von Flugangst gepeinigter Reisender es in der fraglichen Episode mit einem Gremlin zu tun bekommt. Zudem bietet die Aufnahme mit "Nights are Forever" sogar ein Stück sogenannter "source music": Im Film klingt das von Jennifer Warnes gesungene Stück kurz an, als Vic Morrow sich in seiner Stammkneipe gegenüber seinen Kollegen über die vermeintliche Ungerechtigkeit der Welt beklagt und dabei auf Juden und Schwarze schimpft.

Alles in allem also ein wirklich abwechslungsreicher Score - den ich aber, zumindest in dieser Fassung, trotzdem nicht ohne Weiteres zur Anschaffung empfehle. Vor einiger Zeit nämlich ist unter dem Label FSM eine neue CD-Fassung erschienen, die deutlich mehr Musik bietet als die acht Stücke umfassende Zusammenstellung von Warner Bros. Exemplare der auf eine Stückzahl von 3000 limitierten Auflage sind nach wie vor zu haben; Interessierten wie Sammlern empfehle ich deshalb, die Lücke im heimischen Regal lieber gleich mit einem Exemplar der FSM-Version zu schließen, die neben zusätzlicher Musik außerdem noch ein sehr informatives Booklet bietet.

This album has been in my collection ever since it's original release way back when. My collection is quite large and have been slowly collecting some of the old stuff in CD format that I have on vinyl such as this one. It took so long for it to come out and nearly gave up and forgot to check. Now I found it while searching for "Zone" DVD's and discovered that it's out of print it seems! Wow from one extreme to the next and nearly missed finding it. One reviewer mentioned one song in this CD "why was it even on there?" In fact, that very song was the main reason I wanted it. "Nights Are Forever". It was the song playing in the night club when Vic Morrow walked in. It was not a mainstream song in the film. But I liked it so much. I was very pleased that it made the sound track.

The producers of the trouble-plagued "Twilight Zone-the Movie" can be satisfied with one of their decisions: the hiring of legendary Jerry Goldsmith as leader of the baton. He, like fellow composers John Williams and Elmer Bernstein, belongs in a class by himself, with few even meeting him (or them) halfway.
...the album is short (45:20), but a little bit of Goldsmith goes a long way. The highlights are the scores from the segments "Kick the Can" and "It's A Good Life". There are some recognizable Goldsmith touches but that does not lessen their impact or beauty.
It just shows that one has a trained "Goldsmith ear". Any fan worth his/her weight in gold would be able to discern Goldsmith's style from another's.
