This is an absolutely fabulous compilation of old school R&B! Songs like SO GOOD SO RIGHT by Brenda Russell and WHAT YOU WON'T DO FOR LOVE which I haven't heard since I was a kid. I am surprised that more people don't know about this little treasure this is an absolutely essential for any cd collection.

As a lover of the compilation CD (mixtape, collection, greatest hits etc), I am always looking for compilations that include unusual, rarely seen tracks. I also look at how much thought has gone in to putting the collection together - all too often tracks are included to fill up the space rather than ensuring a coherent mix of music and artistes.

On this double CD you won't find anything you've not heard before, therefore very little to discover. The collection leans very heavily on the CBS, WEA and Universal back catalogues, therefore many of the tracks you will see repeated on dozens of other retail and free compilations. So if you're looking for the esoteric, the rarest, the specialist collection, this isn't for you.

Yes, this is full of syrupy, slushy, smooth sentiment, and the selection can best be described as well thought out but 'very safe'.

Nonetheless, this selection from the Jazz FM series includes many gems, from the legendary "What's Going On" (the 7" version) by Marvin Gaye, the dreamy and highly underrated "Friends" - Amii Stewart, to Teddy P's sensuous "Close The Door", Aretha's superlative "Until You Come Back To Me" and soulfully delicious "Walk Away From Love" from David Ruffin, so underrated as a Tamla Motown solo artist.

A recommended collection and a great introduction to the 'smooth soul' genre.
