12 years after his Dawn Chorus (aka Canon of the Three Stars) album, Tomita returned with a new studio album of classical recordings, this time focusing on Bach. Two of the pieces are remixes from previous albums and the rest is new work. He hasn't lost his touch for making a synthesizer sound dynamic and organic, and his sense of humor is intact as well. I like this one as much as his albums from the 1970s and 1980s. Of his earlier classical work, this one sounds most like Dawn Chorus, though Bach Fantasy's emotional peaks are more expressive than the previous album.
I couldn't get the executable of the CD-ROM content to run on my current operating system, but I could play the bonus files, which include a video interview with Tomita and tour of his studio and a MIDI file for Toccata and Fugue; it lives and breathes like no MIDI file I've heard before. Most impressive. : )
