Geoff Muldaur AND Amos Garrett live in Japan 1979. 11 tracks recorded at a club called the Loft. To say it is almost all cover versions of blues, jazz, and jugband tunes runs the risk of diminishing it somewhat. They cover Hoagy Carmichael, Bobby Charles,Henry Thomas and others. They do these with such warmth and vitality one might think the songs had only just been written. The playing is economical and beautifully understated, and never "clutters" the performance. Amos Garrett's solo on the Muldaur tune "Why should I love you " is one of the finest I have ever heard, and makes me wish I could play Guitar. I love this album, and for me it is amongst the very best american roots I have ever heard ( and they sound like they are having such a good time ) The worst thing about this album is that it should have been a double.
