Amazonレビュー

Contrary to the disc's title, there is nothing polite about this new release from the Rollins Band. Fronted by aggressively prolific Henry Rollins and backed by members of Mother Superior, the Rollins Band takes a chainsaw to society, cutting down people who speak first and think later ("Stop Look and Listen"), cities that break your spine ("I Want So Much More"), and never fitting in ("Going Out Strange"). Rollins gives his typical cynical rants, with a couple peeks into the man behind the muscle--"I'm just lonely," he yells repeatedly on "Hello"--backed by the band's usual vigorous take on hard rock. There are some twists on this disc, though, like the funky rhythms on "Your Number Is One" and "Gone Inside the Zero" as well as the electric blues jams on "Hello" and "Let That Devil Out." "Up for It" is the best song on the disc, with a James Brown intro and backup gospel singers adding soul to Rollins's heavy-handed approach. Although the Rollins Band does throw around different musical styles on Nice, overall it's still basically as straightforward as the man who fronts it. It's angry rock & roll from one of rock's angriest men. --Jennifer Maerz

On "I want so much more" (which has saxophone and ladies singing back up - a new one for Rollins) as with most Rollins tunes - the lyrics are just fab... Listening to this stuff makes me want to do push ups...!

Here are the lyrics:

I want so much more
I want so much more
I want so much more
I'm uh get some

the pain and the strain
and it takes to remain
in a game that gets played
by the cheaters and fakes
you think there's a place
to get spit in the face
go follow your heart
'til it tears you apart
get back to me after it breaks

I want so much more
I want so much more
I want so much more
I'm uh get some

day after day
I choke on displays
of abuse
I get used
to the slaps to my face
what a time
what a place
what a day
what a war

I want so much more
I want so much more
I want so much more
I want so much more

it's better to give than receive what a lie
you'd rather get paid and laid 'til you die
it's better to give than receive what a lie
even Mother Theresa got a taste on the sly
it's better to give than receive what a lie
you'd rather sleep late, never work and get high
it's better to give than receive what a lie
I betcha Jesus Christ had that wandering eye
he wanted so much more

I want so much more
I want so much more
I'm uh get it
watch me get it

life is greed
it's not free
lust is truth
I've got proof
wasted and spent
paying the rent
wander the streets
just civilized meat
the model mile
makes my hostile smile
with blood on my teeth
and food for a week

I want so much more
I want so much more
I want so much more
I'm uh get some

I hear all the talk about soul and the spirit
I've heard it so much that I no longer hear it
life is a hurdle and you'll never clear it
death is the end of the ride and you fear it
death is the end of the ride and you fear it
death is the end of the ride and you fear it

After the strange and twisted ramblings of Yellow Blues one could be forgiven for apprehension regarding the purchase of a new Rollins Band CD. But fear not, "Nice" is the real follow-up to "Get Some, Go Again".
Lots of thumping riffs, screaming vocals, and finger-punishing solos threaten to perforate your eardrums, especially if you listen to this through headphones. This is a FAST and LOUD album. High tempos keep the songs moving almost too fast. One can imagine the drummer having a fit as he pounds out the rhythm and the guitarists try to keep up. Jim Wilson, himself a rocker from way back, thanks Hank on the CD inlay for making sure the band rocks and it is evident he does.
As well as the usual Rollins punk attitude there is an element of funk here too. "Up for It" and "I Want So Much More" feature female backing vocals (a first for Rollins?) and "Your Number is One" fairly twitches along, getting slightly lost along the way.
The production is more raw than on "Get Some..." and sometimes the guitar parts suffer for it. The solos are not as good as I think Jim could have made them but his loss is bassist Marcus Blake and drummer Jason Mackenroth's gain. Their parts are what drives most of the songs, accompanied by Hank's usual roar.
I have already annoyed the neighbours with his one and I am looking forward to irritating everyone else on the tube later in the day. If you see me jerking and twitching around in the station please don't try to stop me until you see blood leaking from my headphones.

Was auffällt: 1. Die Platte ist abwechslungsreich wie keine zuvor. 2. Die Gitarrensounds sind absolut unglaublich. 3. Die Songs haben einen hohen Wiedererkennunswert. 4. Die Produktion ist knackig und transparent. 5.
Akzeptiert dies. "Nice" im Rollins Stone wahrscheinlich "Platte des Monats". Akzeptiert auch dies. "Nice" macht riesig Spaß.
