A very definite sequel to 1997's fabulous Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space rather than a brave new dawn, Let It All Come Down finds Pierce dropping the indie ballast--his band, who went on to form the mediocre Lupine Howl--and embellishing on the orchestral trappings of the Live at The Royal Albert Hall LP with a 100-piece choir and a selection of nobly beautiful gospel songs. It's tempting to see each new Spiritualized album as the latest instalment of "The Continuing Narcotic Adventures of Jason Pierce", but as ever, the man that is Spiritualized remains tight-lipped about the themes--heartbreak, redemption, the existence of a Merciful God and the importance of a well-stocked medicine cabinet--that dominate his work. He hasn't cleaned up his act, though: "The Straight and Narrow" is an elegiac hymn to addiction with Pierce singing "The trouble with the straight and the narrow is that it's so thin / I keep sliding off to the side". It's the hell-for-leather harmonica squeal of "Twelve Steps", though, that proves he's still having fun: "The only time I'm drink and drug free / Is when I don't have to pay for what I need," drawls Pierce, bright-eyed at the teetering peak of his chemical rollercoaster. 01年発の4th。Spiritualizedというバンドは、その作品が進むごとにジェイソン・ピアースという人間の生身の気配が強まって聴こえてくるように思うのだが、そもそものそんな感触を初めて抱いたのが本作。往時のメンバー全員を解雇し、ジェイソンのソロ・プロジェクトとして製作された。ジェントルなピアノの一閃から始まる"On Fire"からして、ほとんど破滅願望に近い苛烈さや、はたまた気が触れたかのように誇大なスケールで提示される楽曲群が、圧巻。人力サイケの極地とも言えそうなゴスペル隊やフル・オーケストラなど総勢100名を超える布陣により表現された、狂った男のパーソナリティが素晴らしすぎます。

元スペースメン3のジェイソン・ピアースを中心としたバンド、スピリチュアライズドの4枚目のスタジオアルバム。前作『宇宙遊泳』の大成功の後、ジェイソンが選んだのは100人以上のミュージシャンとのセッションだった。

前作では完全に地上から足が離れていた感があったが、今回は無事地上に帰還。シングル“Stop Your Crying”に代表されるように、非常に肉感的でダイナミックなサウンドが展開されている。しかし注目すべきはその歌詞。惨めなまでに人生や愛について言及する様には思わず胸を打たれる。

このアーティストのCDは初めて買いましたが、大アタリでした。
ＵＫロックの骨太さは失わず、それでいてゴスペルやクラシックを融合させた音の美しさは、癒しさえ感じるほどの感動もの。個人的には１曲目のうねるようなクラシックのバックと、ＵＫロックを地で行く骨太な彼の歌声が奏でる、絶妙な組み合わせが好きです。（クラシックの音がうねるというのは変な表現ですが、本当にそんな感じなんです）

Let It Come Down itself a great album. Five stars for the music itself.

I'm reviewing the vinyl edition on Plain Recordings, which is terrible and giving this edition one star.

I buy a lot of new and used vinyl. I use a reasonably good turntable (Rega Planar 2). I love vinyl! However, this is one of the worst-sounding records I have purchased in a very long time. It sounds flat - there are no dynamics. The big dramatic sections of this recording just turn to mush. A terrible piece of vinyl mastering.

I've since done a bit of research and it seems I'm not the only one with a poor opinion about this particular vinyl release. Plain Recordings vinyl releases of this and other Spiritualized (and other artists) works on vinyl are no good.

I will not buy another Plain Recordings vinyl release. Stuff like this gives new vinyl a bad name.

L'album pop di Jason Pierce. Lontano dalle derive tossiche dei Spacemen 3 e da quelle quasi garage delle prove sucessive a nome Spiritualized (vedi un gioiellino come "amazing grace") "Let it come down" è un affresco di pop sinfonico con derive verso il brit pop. Piacevolissimo. Dalla confezione davvero originale alla musica proposta tutto è enfatico e pomposo ma con un gusto davvero irreprensibile. Se "Ladies and gentleman we are..." è unanimamente considerato il loro capolavoro questo "let it come down" non viaggia a livelli molto inferiori quindi merita assoluto rispetto. E di essere ascoltato..
