Bebel Gilberto appears to be the figurehead of 21st-century bossa nova, so it's only fitting she should be the subject of one of the biggest 21st-century trends, the remix. But when the remixes are done as well as this, it actually adds to the original album. Her languid, sensual vocals are still the cornerstone, but Rae & Christian's more upbeat take on "Bananeira" propels the song to the dance floor, while Trüby Trio evoke the shantytown favelas, home of samba, on the percussive "Sem Contencao." A couple of the tracks might seem more like limp Sade than tropical Bebel, but for the most part there's plenty of invention occurring, as with Da Lata's gorgeous interpretation of "August Day Song." In addition to all of the aforementioned, King Britt, Ananda Project, and 4hero are among the studio whizzes who lend their high-profile talents to Gilberto, making Tanto Tempo into something reborn. --Chris Nickson

Bebel has a beautiful voice, and I love the Brazilian Style - this remix album is like driving a convertible on the most perfect sunny day. My fave - August Day Song. Perfect for dancing, or for chilling on your garden patio with your favorite drink.

I have the original Tanto Tempo, and some of Bebel's other albums, which I enjoy and recommend. I thought the remix sounded like an interesting experiment, so I got it a a low-ish price as a 'once loved' item. I have an eclectic taste in music, including jazz, drum-and-base and electronica, but this album just didn't work so well for me. Babel's still has a wonderful voice though.

I was pretty excited for this record. At the end of the day, there are a couple good songs, the rest are mediocre at best. They sound the same, try to do things they shouldn't, etc... I would not reccomend this record. The original album is better (much).

I'm a Bebel Gilberto fan. Her voice & style is truly awesome!! I bought this album on pre-sale, knowing that at least it'd be good...and it's very good indeed, although the original Tanto Tempo album is the "masterpiece", no doubt (it deserves more than five stars). The remixes are lively, most of them electronic-techno-oriented (of course), but do not surpass the original versions, with one exception: "Bananeira", which in my opinion improves on the original. Other remixes that stand appart from the lot are Mario Caldato's "So Nice" (I love this song)and Faze Action's "Close your Eyes", because they tend to "capture" the brazilian flavor and do not differ too much from the originals. In the totally electronic-techno-oriented trend, Peter Kruder's "Tanto Tempo" is the best. If you are a Bebel fan, this one must be in your collection. We're waiting for the follow-up to "Tanto Tempo"!
