1ｓｔも良かったが、さらにロックンロールを深化させた彼らの最高傑作。
彼らならではの重量感と疾走感。それに渋みを加えた音楽は、ロック＆ブルースが凝縮してます。

彼らが息の長いバンドになるとは...こんな出来上がってしまった一枚を残した時点で。。
そんなロックバンドは大抵、固定され美化されたイメージと共に過去の思い出になる。
でも、クリス・ロビンソンは違った。彼はこれからも輝き続けるだろう。年を一つ重ねる度に
『Thorn in My Pride 』が傷にしみる。。。

オールマンブラザースとか、レーナードスキナードとか、偶然ですけど、サザンロックのバンドは2ndが最高という。
Zeppelinのようなへヴィなグルーブと、ストーンズのようにルーズなロックンロール。矛盾するような要素がこのアルバムでは見事に融合。で、時々鳥肌もののギターソロがかぶさる。悪いわけがない。
この後、ジャケットも含めて迷走状態に入るわけですが、このアルバムはいつまでたっても新鮮でカッコいい、金字塔です。

　黒カラス2ndにして最高傑作！ギターにMark Fordが加入したり、デビュー作ではC・リーベルに任せた鍵盤も、パーマネントなメンバーを迎え入れるなど、新たな6人編成にて、よりディーブに進化・深化した、南部のブルースフィーリング溢れる粘っこいグルーブがタマラナイ作品に仕上がった♪（ジャケットは5人、裏ジャケに6人って何？）

　全10曲50分超、全体的にはゆったりとした、スケールの大きな楽曲がズラリと揃い、聴く者を圧倒するね。そう、これ以上やると「冗長」「大仰」で「マニアック」になる一歩手前ギリギリのとこなれど、やはり新加入のM・フォードが繰り出すギターの“うねり”に、前作では目立たなかったブルースハープが絡み、更に“コール＆レスポンス”の要素も取り込んだアレンジが、このバンドのドライブ感をさらに加速させたね。それにしても、素晴らしかったデビュー作を遥かに凌駕する、ここまで飛躍的な成長を感じさせる作品となるとは！もうね、貫禄たっぷりなんだよね〜。

　前作から引き続き、G・ドラクリアスとB・オブライエンが、散漫にならないよう、カチッと引き締めており、さすがの仕事振り。まぁ、どの曲がどうのこうのといった次元ではなく、1枚まるっと、体全体で受け止めるべきアルバムだね！

BLACK　CROWESといえば、南部系ロックの最高峰と言えるでしょう！
デビュー当時は日本ではハードロックとして紹介され、当の本人たちが面食らったという有名な逸話も残っていますが、音的にはハードロックではまったくありません。（誰だ、そんな紹介したのは？）
音がどうこうというのは、とにかく聴いていただければ1曲目から一瞬でわかります。サザンロックから始まり、アメリカのルーツなロック全般、ブルーズロックが好きな人なら間違いなく気に入っていただけるでしょう！
個人的には、Black　Crowesのアルバムの中では、Live　At　Greekを除いたスタジオアルバムの中ではこのThe Southern Harmony and Musical　Companion　が最高のアルバムだと思っています。
Black　Crowesを聴こうかなと思っている人、とりあえずこのアルバムを聴いてみてください！
そうすれば、星が5つついている意味がわかっていいただけると思います！！

Je ne connaissais presque pas ce groupe au nom pourtant très mémorisable . La pochette ressemble diablement à celle du deuxième album de The Band (  The Band  ).

Un peu southern rock body-buildé, parfois limite hard, ça a du style et de la tenue. Les compos sont bonnes, plutôt longues et assez variées et cerise sur le gâteau, la rythmique est très bonne, éminemment groovy, ça pulse un max ! Chris Robinson le chanteur a un timbre de voix qui rappelle un peu celui de Rod Stewart, mais qui me plait d'avantage que celui de l'écossais. Marc Ford, le principal guitariste soliste assure bien, mais avec un son un peu trop sec, manquant de reverb à mon goût.

L'album mérite largement ses cinq étoiles mais je le trouve un peu fatiguant à écouter à la longue, les guitares saturées sont un peu trop omniprésentes, on aimerait parfois souffler un peu.

Très très au-dessus de la moyenne de ce que j'ai pu écouter dans toutes les productions rock des années 90.

I’ve never known such an improvement from a debut to a second album, as with The Black Crowes “Southern Harmony..”, don’t get me wrong “Shake your..” is a decent record, is just all the songs are quite simple & there are a couple of forgettable tracks on the album.
From the opening chords of “Sting me” you know that your in for something really special, the song writing has matured considerable & the improvement in the musicianship is a revelation.
Full of classic songs, “Remedy” is an instant anthem, “Thorn in my Pride” is deeply soulful & Bob Marley’s “Only time will tell” finishes off the album with a nice laid back or most jamming-on-the-back-porch feel.
You also get two bonus tracks, “Sting me (slow)" it does what it says on the tin, pretty close to the album version but slowed down giving the song more of a blues feel, but considering the amount of slower tracks on the album, I think the fast version was the right choice. Second is a Rolling Stones style version of "99lbs", ok if nothing special.
So “Southern Harmony..” really punched the band into the big league when it came to musical credibility, which carried on with their next two albums “Amorica” & “3 Snakes..”.

I wore out the cassette copy of this I bought on my way home from school the day it was released back in '92. I since purchased it on CD, which long ago was scratched beyond playability. I was hoping to find the original digipak release and was lucky to score one in mint condition! It bummed me out when they remastered the first four albums for "Sho' 'Nuff," and yet again in '02 and I believe in '07. I wanted to avoid these versions like the plague, as you can't improve on perfection.

This album starts of rockin' with "Sting Me" and "Remedy." A pair heavy, funky, soulful rockers. Then things slow down a bit with "Thorn" and "Bad Luck, Blue Eyes." Things get a bit darker, but no less rocking with numbers like "Black Moon Creeping" and "My Morning Song." "Sometimes Salvation" is the heaviest tune of the collection. It's a slower, sloppy Rich Robinson riff featuring a wicked hot and juicy solo from Marc Ford. "Hotel Illness" is a rootsy mid-tempo rocker, and "Time Will Tell," a Bob Marley cover, is a bit of filler to finish the record.

Devotees of the first album, "Shake Your Money Maker" may be disappointed by the lack of pop-friendly songs on this one. But if you like heavy, funky, rockin' grooves and soulful screaming you'll really dig it. In my opinion this is the sound of a band coming off of huge chart success finding their true sound. This album is said to have been recorded over the course of a single weekend, and definitely has that loose type of sound. Awesome album.
