A live recording made in Buenos Aires in 1966 by a group led by soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy, with Enrico Rava, trumpet, Johnny Dyani, bass and Louis Moholo drums. A very free-form, no-holds-barred set that reflects the highly explorative nature of avant garde jazz of the period; of interest to British listeners will be the presence of the two South Africans, who in later years would become important stalwarts of the UK jazz scene. All the musicians weave lines around each other with Moholo`s relentless drumming underpinning things, occasionally subduing his contribution to allow the improvisation to breathe; it`s intense music – not for the faint-hearted – but is indicative of the direction much of Lacy`s music would take. With it's distinctive cover – the painting featured is by Bob Thompson, a friend of Lacy`s and an important figure in African-American painting who died in Europe much too young and unrecognised – this is a key recording in Lacy`s discography. The CD has a running time of 41.53 minutes. Amazon have now stopped providing sound samples – a stupid and extremely inconvenient move for all prospective purchasers – check out YouTube or the like for tracks from the album.

This album is the gold standard of new Jazz classics. Different with other new jazz leaders, Steve Lacy's sound is completely tuned and tonal music. It is unbelievable and remarkable in the new jazz world. I want to say again this is the historical Jazz classics to be loved for all Jazz freaks who loves JAZZ.
