Really enjoyed this disc, reminded me of a few times seeing the Art Ensemble in the 80s in San Francisco. While it's on the less adventurous side, I find that more appealing for listening at home, as opposed to the exhilaration of their live performances where they pulled out the stops and ran the gamut from African roots, Storyville through the history and beyond belief! Live concerts were often a spiritual even religious experience. Those who witnessed it can attest. I remember seeing them with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band as openers during a S.F. Jazz series. Watched as some of the "jazz" audience slowly started fidgeting and slinking out of the theater, totally unaware of who AEC was or what this iconic band was doing! The Odwalla Theme here reminded me of their closing of the set and brings back fond memories of those very special encounters. As they would say "Great black music, from the ancient to the future"! AMAZING! The real deal..... RIP.
