所謂名盤本ではあまり注目はされていないようですが個人的にはHorace Silverの中で一番好きなアルバム。彼の書いた曲は殆ど全部聞きましたが1曲目のNo Smokin'は彼のペンによる曲の中でも屈指の格好良さ。ファンキーというよりも疾走感があって知的でクール。でも熱い。これが50年前に作られてるんだから恐ろしい。

This excellent, but neglected Horace Silver Quintet album was recorded in Hackensack, New Jersey on May 8, 1957 with Silver(piano); Hank Mobley(tenor saxophone); Art Farmer(trumpet); Teddy Kotick(bass) & Louis Hayes(drums).
The six varied tracks include five originals by the leader and highlights are Silver's 'Home Cookin'' and a stunning version of the standard 'My One And Only Love'.
Mobley and Farmer complement one another beautifully and the soulful and swinging hard bop on this BLUE NOTE RVG Edition(2002) deserves to be much better known.

"The Stylings Of Silver" was released on Blue Note Records in 1957. Horace Silver is one of the best pianists/composers of his time and I still feel that his own recordings as a leader are underrated. This album is just one of the many examples. Horace is joined by a great band: Hank Mobley on tenor saxophone, Art Farmer on trumpet, Teddy Kotick on bass, and Louis Hayes on drums. I would rate this album one of his finest in his vast discography. If you dug this, then I would suggest picking up "Strollin," "Finger Poppin," "Six Pieces Of Silver," or "Blowin' The Blues Away." All highly recommended.
