I only recently discovered Slim Gaillard. He's probably not to everyone's taste. But if you have a sense of humor, and like old style jazz, this is a lot of fun!

After much searching I've finally discovered the album which contains Slim Gaillard's brilliant and hilarious version of 'How High The Moon'. Slim's surreal improvised lyrics feature, among other things, "potatoes the size of the Hollywood Bowl" growing on the Moon and being "peeled with a bulldozer". The other 12 vocal and instrumental tracks are swinging and entertaining but don't reach the dizzy heights of 'How High The Moon'("The Moon never wonders how low you are"). 'Slim Gaillard Rides Again' was originally recorded for the DOT label in New York City probably during November, 1958 with Gaillard(piano, guitar & vocal) plus an unknown rhythm section. This album is currently very hard to find but worth paying almost any price for the inspired lunacy of Slim's version of 'How High The Moon'.
This man is truly funny and so real. His silly sense of humor with a little vout (jazz babble) produces great new versions of these classic song selections. (Where does a grown man get the balls to sing Chicken Rhythm??) He shines when he reaches way down for that startlingly smooth and velvety deep voice. Thunderbird, go, go, go!!!
