Originally released in 1998, the new SPV Super Value edition of Sky Of Avalon has been remastered by Uli Jon Roth and contains a bonus video track and an all new booklet with rare photos and liner notes by Uli John Roth.

Uli Jon Roth is without doubt one of the most eminent and influential guitarists of the international music scene. Be it as a long-time member with the Scorpions, founder and mastermind of his own band Electric Sun or as a solo artist, whose brilliant symphonic rock concept Sky Of Avalon caused a stir with its exciting melange of classical music and rock: the musician from Hanover has already had a lasting influence on the music world.

In 1993 Roth made a name for himself in the classic crossover sector as the musical director of an extremely successful production called Symphonic Rock For Europe, which was broadcast by the German TV channel WDR. As part of the production, his first complete symphony Europa Ex Favilla was performed by almost one hundred artists from the Brussels Symphonic Orchestra, together with a large choir and a rock band. The theme was taken up again in 1995, when Roths Puccini treatment Bridge To Heaven - performed by vocalist Klaus Meine with Roth on guitar - was celebrated during the great José Carreras Christmas Gala in Leipzig. Since leaving the Scorpions, Roth repeatedly became the talking point in the rock genre. In 1991 U.J. Roth, undisputedly Thee German authority when it comes to authentic rock interpretations, was asked to take on the musical direction of the WDR TV special A Different Side Of Jimi Hendrix. The result was a moving TV spectacle, with Roth alongside Jack Bruce (Cream), Simon Philips (Toto, The Who, Bob Dylan among others), Jule Neigel, Randy Hansen, Zeno and Peter Bursch performing a fascinating repertoire of Hendrix compositions, which was praised on an international level. Roth dedicated the concert to Monika Dannemann, Jimi Hendrix last girlfriend and later Roths partner for over twenty years before her tragic death in 1996.

天空のメロディー！

　1996年、Uli Jon Rothの作品です。
　Uliが、ほぼ書き上げた(？)という「Symphonic Legends (交響曲伝説)」の序章が、このアルバムです。
　
　Uli率いる「Sky Orchestra」というオーケストラをバックに、
Uliのスカイギターが、自由に、美しく、力強く舞います。
　まさしく、ジャケットのペガサスのように。。。

　1枚通して、どこもかしこも、美しいメロディーで満ち溢れています。
　まるで、この世のメロディーではないかのように。。。

　前作「Beyond the Astral Skies」では、ジャケットのインナーにスカイギターの写真がありますが、
レコーディングでスカイギターを使用したのは、このアルバムが初めてです。
　つまり。。。「スカイギター、初見参！」です。

　また、ヴォーカルも、
Tommy Heart (FAIR WARNING)、Michael Flexing (ZENO, アルバム「Zeno」でVo) と、
歌唱力・表現力で「圧倒的最高レベルのVocalist」が起用されています。
（他に、Leonora Gold というソプラノ歌手を起用）

　なお、
tr. 1, 10は、プッチーニの曲をモチーフとしたもの。
　Lead Voは、
Tommy Heartが tr. 1,5,8
Michael Flexigが、tr.4,9,11
Leonora Goldが、tr.2 です。
　他は、Uliのスカイギターを堪能できるインスト曲です。

　1人でも多くの人に聴いていただきたい、1枚です。
。。。「まさしく、これが、天空のメロディー！」と思える「至上の美しさ」です。

ゲイリー･ムーア、リッチー･ブラックモア、マイケル･シェンカーが今一パッとしない時期に出たアルバムだったので大いに期待していたが、如何せんギターが少ない、少なすぎる。スカイギターの音は素晴らしいが、やはりあのストラトの音が聴きたい。スコーピオンズとエレクトリック･サン聴くとするか。

トミー・ハート最高！甘美なシンフォニック・ロックの傑作・・・

大袈裟でド派手なシンフォニック・ロックだが、この人がやると全く違和感がない！冒頭から感動ものだ。ロックというよりオペラ。ロックだけでなく、古今の音楽への造詣が深いからこそ出来る彼だけの離れワザだろう。

・・・トミー・ハートを伴っての、ひさびさの来日公演の時は、感動し過ぎて、本人から直接サインをもらって帰ったのが、記憶に新しい・・・気難しいと思いきや、終始にこやかだったウリさんが忘れられない。

凄まじい名盤｢BEYOND THE ASTRAL SKIES｣を最後に10年以上シーンの表舞台から姿を消していたウリ・ロート(G)。
本作は'96年になってようやく発表された3部作ロック・オペラ｢SYMPHONIC LEGENDS｣の"プロローグ･アルバム"。
オープニングに収められた"Bridge To Heaven"のあまりの美しさにまずは脱帽だ。
プッチーニのアリア"誰も寝てはならぬ"をモチーフにしたこの曲ではトミー・ハート(FAIR WARNING)がVoをとっており、
その卓越した歌唱とロートの全身総毛立つような凄まじいソロが感動を与えてくれる。
この人のプレイを聴いていると同じスカイ・ギターという楽器を使っていてもFAIR WARNINGのあの人は随分と
底が浅いんだなと思える。
｢ロック｣に拘らず、美しい音楽の好きな人にオススメ。
ちなみにこの三部作本編は8年経った今も発表されていない･･･。

I liked this album very much.
This is the sort of album you listen to over and over again.
In the sleeve, Uli was writing the Symphonic Legends in this title.
What has happened to them? He's finished 3 of 5. Did he ever record them?
I've been on Amazon and Ebay but nothing comes up.
I don't want to leave it with this album, I want more.
The first 3 Symphonies are
SOLDIERS OF GRACE. EUROPA EX FAVILLA HIROSHIMA DE PROFUNDIS.
Surely he's finished them after ten years.

Quite disappointed in this c.d. Knew before hand it would be lighter ,classical fare but you cant even tell its a Uli Jon Roth cd, Sparse guitar and the classical elements are light.I do play when im in a very mellow mood and dont have to concentrate to listen to the music.If you want something with classical elements and scorching guitar check out George Lynch's orchestral stuff
