New Zealand rockers the Datsuns fearlessly hitch the sound of Antipodean forebears AC/DC, the Saints, and the Scientists onto the stripped-back blues howl of the White Stripes. In their gloriously simple world, riffs are basic, guitar solos heroic, and lyrical concerns don't stretch much beyond bad women who've done these volume-addled longhairs wrong. A song like "MF from Hell" demonstrates where the Datsuns are coming from: guitars chug while singer Dolf De Datsun yelps and delivers a big, dumb chorus that would've made the Ramones proud. There are touches of Mudhoney ("Lady" is basically "Touch Me I'm Sick 2003"), Thin Lizzy, and any band made up of guys who don't think much beyond booze, girls, and sleeping in a ditch after a perfect show. --Ian Watson

初めてこのバンドを聴いたのはCD屋の試聴機で聴いたときだ
宣伝文句はAC/DCやらLED ZEPPELINやらのサウンドだぁだとかなんとかだった　こういった宣伝文句はよくあるものだしはなっから期待なんてしてなかった　けど最初のリフを聴いた瞬間なんだこりゃぁ！？てな感じ　最近は７０’前後のバンドとかばっか聴いてて最近のバンドなんて聴こうと思うものなんてほとんどなかった　だけどこのバンドは本当のロックだと感じた
最近のバンドは売れることばっか意識してるのばかりだけどこのバンドは自分たちのやりたいことを最優先してるんだと思う
もし７０’あたりのロックが好きで最近はろくなバンドなんていねえぇやと思ってるひとたちには一度聴いてからこのバンドの判断を下してほしい

　まずは、そのジャケットに（笑。とても、21世紀のバンドとは、思えません。もちろん、その髪型も（笑。
　サウンドも、その髪型同様の、70'sサウンド。リフ先行の、楽曲にグイグイ引きこまれてしまいます。チープなサウンドも、それにぴったりハマって
おり、◎。
　何より、自分達が、楽しんで演奏してるのが伝わってくるので、こっちも
肩肘張らずに聴ける一枚！オールドスクールなロックファンから、オルタナ
ファンまでオススメ☆

名前からしてオトコを感じさせます。ブリティッシュ・ロック特有なメロウさは無く、どちらかと言えば、アメリカの大地を感じさせる乾いたロックというべきでしょうか？土埃でむせ返るような中で奏でられる楽曲のような...。でも彼らはUKバンドなんですよね。ひたすらスカッとしたい時に聴きたくなるオトコなロックです！

Premier album, coup de génie !

Si vous aimez la musique érudit, révolutionnaire... Passez votre chemin !
Ici, c'est du rock and roll très 70's comme peu de gens savent (ou osent) encore le faire. Les Datsuns ont suivi la recette écrite par leurs ainés (Led Zeppelin en tête de liste) et nous en ont concocté leur interprétation. ça pourrait sentir le réchauffé ou paraître ringard, et en fait, pas du tout. Le rock and roll, ça ne se démode pas !

Le résultat est plus que convaincant. Les 2 guitaristes, et surtout le soliste Christian Livingstone sont au top niveau. ils sont très complémentaires, un peu comme Robert Dalhqvist et Nicke Andersson des Hellacopters.
Les riffs sont simples sans être simplistes, les solos sont construits, ni trop courts, ni trop longs, le bassiste chanteur charismatique Dolf De Borst (qui officie maintenant aux côtés de Nicke Royale (ex Entombed, The Solution, Hellacopters) au sein de Imperial State Electric) déborde d'énergie, et le batteur a un frappe franche sans mettre de coups de cymbales dans tous les sens. Une frappe lourde sans jouer au fond du temps. Ce combo délivre au final un high energy rock and roll de haute voltige !

Un disque comme ça devrait être remboursé par la sécu ! Depuis les Hellacopters, la scène rock and roll n'avait pas connu de grand rebondissement. Heureusement, les Datsuns sont là pour réchauffer nos coeurs !

Take four young men, get them together at the age of 14, start a band and play live. In essence that's the Datsuns. Now in their early 20's, they could be considered veterans of the New Zealand music scene (is there one?). Well, here's the good news, the wait has served them well.
If you like your rock, fast, loud, punky and full of teenage testosterone then these lot will suit the bill very nicely. Don't think of them as purely retro rockers, they sit very nicely with the likes of the Hives and their country compatriots, The D4, kicking in music that sounds as fresh as the day they first picked up their guitars.
Yes, it sounds like AC/DC in places, but, I ask you, if you want a reference point for the best popular rock music ever written, then I can think of no better starting point.
The songs blaze from track number 1 onwards, 'Sittin Pretty' has a riff to die for, 'MF from Hell' is utterly mad, speed lust rock and it gets better from there on.
The single 'In Love', sees things get down to a more boogie style pace, but fear not, by track 10 things are back up to pace.
It's not original, by any means, but who cares. They are the best live band I've seen in 2002 and they have the songs to blow your speakers to kingdom come. I guarantee, you'll be playing it at full volume from day one, air guitar in hand, screaming like a banshee.
It's one of the essential albums of the year!

Album parfait. Ces mecs arrivent, te foutent ça dans le tronche, et repartent comme si de rien n'était... Compos impeccables, le son, une tuerie, ce disque peut tourner en boucle, et c'est d'ailleurs ce qui se passe! Excellent!
