Sizzla fans should make sure theyre sitting down when they put on Light Of My World, as they may be in for a shock. The fearless dancehall warriors fallen in love, and it really shows on this record. Almost gone are the righteous political lyrics of much of his previous work, replaced by a selection of love songs. This being Sizzla, these arent your average love songs, however, Shaggy hes not.
As ever this is a real mix of styles, from the almost straight up lovers rock with a dancehall twist of "Mine And Only" to the R&B influenced backing chorus of "Thinking About You", the traditional reggae sound of title track "Light Of My World", to "Need", which sounds like a reggae take on Mary J. Bliges "Family Affair". Its only towards the last tracks that it sounds like business as usual, with the final three tracks ending the album in the straight up dancehall delivery hes famous for. He may return to business as usual for his next record, but this record is an interesting diversion nevertheless. --Chris Blenkarn
