Tolles Album! Kann ich nur empfehlen!👍 Bin sehr glücklich darüber, es zu haben.
This Australian-made group led by the eccentric Luke Steele made a couple of decent albums, and then disappeared. Luke went on to form dance act Empire of the Sun and, perhaps due to the success of their debut single Walking On A Dream, evidently decided to abandon the country-tinged Brian Wilson pop of Sleepy Jackson. That's kind of a shame, because their two albums are quite good, and the follow up to Lovers (Personality) shows the band maturing to a more sophisticated orchestrated pop ensemble and is the stronger record. Lovers is still pretty good though, beginning with the excellent opening track and single Good Dancers. Luke's falsetto is firmly in place on this song (a trademark of the popular Empire of the Sun recordings and the Personality album) but it doesn't saturate this album. Tracks like the fabulously catchy Miniskirt are more traditional Wilco-esque alt-country-pop, while Vampire Racecourse actually picks up the pace a bit. Doesn't exactly "rock out", but is definitely the most foot-stomping moment in the Sleepy Jackson catalogue. A few of the other tracks are unfortunately a bit samey, which prevents this from being an outstanding debut, but it sure is a promising one. A shame that promise would be abandoned after just the second album.
