自転車競技“ツール・ド・フランス”をスポーツの爽やかイメージでとらえている人には理解できない曲調。
ダークなテクノサウンドはあたかも選手の内面をえぐりとっているかのよう。
自らが選手となり、自らの心臓の鼓動を聞きたければ、買って聞くべし!!

冷たいようで、どこか牧歌的なこの質感。実は「THE MIX」リリースの3ヶ月後に出来ていた、と言われても全く違和感がないくらい、何も変わっていません。
違う作風への挑戦を試みた「Tribal」や「Tango」（'98年のワールドツアーで演奏）は、やはり幻の作品で終わってしまうのでしょうか。
ちなみに、CCCDではないのでプレイヤーによってはかからなかったりすることはありません。安心して購入してください。

彼らのインタビューを読むと最近のテクノの動向のチェックに抜かりはないようで、
またライブでの新しい機材の導入や、このアルバムでのそつのない音色のチョイスなどを見ても
彼らの意図は只一点、現代における素晴らしいテクノのアルバムを作る事にあったのでは、と思う。
ここにあるのは1枚の新しいテクノLPで、
多くのDJがこのアルバムの曲をプレイしクラウドを盛り上げるだろう、
そのことこそがこのアルバムへの最も美しい讃辞ではなかろうか。

　そã-て、本質的に、今作もå...¨ãå¤‰ã‚ã‚‰ãªã„。空é-"ã‚'感じさせる雄大で、牧歌的作りである。まさに、æˆ'ã€...がå¾...っていたものである。

CDは3曲目までは良いと思うが他の曲は聞く価値ないかな。
12inchのレコードシングルはTOUR DE FRANCEのバージョン違いの3曲入りで、A面に1曲、B面に2曲入っていますがA面のLONG DISTANCE VERSION 2はクールです。CDとの音の違いも比較にならないほど生々しいものです。CDの音は貧相です。

**Intro**
Kraftwerk released a single by the same name as this full album in 1983. Fans were excited when they released this album in 2003. It has a lot more Tour De France themed music on it than the previous single, and the additional music is substantial, not filler. Most Kraftwerk fans like their older work better, but unlike some of their other "contemporary" albums (all of the ones after Computer World in 1981) where most of the music on it is a compilation of their previous works, much of the work on this album is new.

**The music**
This album really does capture the spirit of the Tour De France, which is perhaps what makes it so amazing. The beats, the melody, and the percussive accompaniment seem to suggest the bicyclists frantically pedaling away, and speeding down the steep and winding roadways of France. I'm excited and happy to listen to most of the songs on this album, there aren't really any duds, and you kind of have to listen to them all to get the full artistic picture that Kraftwerk was painting here. Here are some notes on each one:

1.) Prologue - Parts of this album are quite fast, almost frantic. The Prologue is abstract, floaty, and melodic instead. It is quite short, just meant to be an introduction to the album.
2.) Etape 1 - This song builds on the Prologue, the beat gets more complex, more rhythm is added, and some minimal vocoder lyrics.
3.) Etape 2 - Further development of what was happening in Etape 1. The overall sounds get larger, more impressive, and more complex. The tempo increases. It as if there were only a few riders at a time previously and now the road is full with them.
4.) Etape 3 - Things go back to being quieter and simpler again. More echo-ey, and suggestive of liquid sloshing around. Similar beats to previous.
5.) Chrono - Etape 3 blends right into this song. The echoing sounds get elaborated upon further, and get more explorative and elaborate.
6.) Vitamin - Completely different than the previous songs. Metallic sounds like pots and pans being clanked, but more pleasant. Kraftwerk did this to suggest the mineral identity of most vitamins. Soft, somewhat playful lyrics announce the vitamin names.
7.) Aero Dynamik - The music changes significantly again. Intense catchy background beat. Thickly distorted vocoder lyrics that you can barely understand. Some of the beats are similar to before.
8.) Titanium - A sort of reprise, reinterpretation, or remix of Aero Dynamik. Vocoder voice announces metals commonly used in bicycle frames, and other lyrics that I can't understand.
9.) Elektro Kardiogramm - Begins with a sample of a beating heart, and raspy breathing, then a completely different beat, and vocoder vocals saying "Elektro Kardiogramm."
10.) La Forme - A happier song, melody almost suggests asian music. More heavily distorted vocoder.
11.) Regeneration - Similar continuation of La Forme. Less melodic, more minimal and abstract.
12.) Tour De France - Lots of raspy heavy breathing that isn't really pleasant to listen to, but then is gives way to whimsical, happy melodies, and non-distorted vocals about Tour De France. Much more pleasant and reasonable to listen to once the breathing part at the beginning is over.

**Conclusions and buying advice**
Kraftwerk meant for this album to be experienced by the listener as a complete unit, so I would not recommend that you buy single songs off this album. Kraftwerk may have made this album beyond their prime as a band, as a lot of the more mind-blowing work that they did was with Computer World (1981) and before. That said, this album is certainly respectable, and does contain the hallmarks of their music. They did well to select Tour De France as a theme for this album. They did manage to make their electronic music highly suggestive of a bicycle tour/race, which I think is amazing. You should check this out for yourself. For all of these reasons, I'm giving this album 5 stars.

Kraftwerk continue their man/machine explorations with an album that really puts you in the heart of the peloton.
The Tour De France is as much about the blurring of the boundaries between mankind and its machines as it is about endurance or sporting achievement. One set of legs, one set of wheels, no power source except the body and mind of the rider. Formula 1? Pah!
So, it's entirely appropriate that the band who produced Man Machine more than a quarter of a century ago should be so obsessed by this grand sporting event. If the understated hype is to be believed the band sacked two of their long standing members because they didn't want to cycle! Is that why it took so long to produce this album? Was it a really a matter of "sporting differences"?
Whatever...
The music is every bit as vital as their one time swan song Electric Cafe was bland and predictable. The band have remained true to the innovative spirit of adventure that they employed to such startling effect on The Mix. The textures are much lighter though, and there must be a sneaking suspicion that this is as close as we've ever got to Kraftwerk's chill out album.
But go back even further into the mists of time and you'll rediscover a band that knew all about chilling long before it became a social neccessity. The albums before the ground breaking Autobhan were filled with the kinds of sonic tricks that populate TDF Soundtracks. In a way, this is a band that has come home to itself.
It would be unfair to expect any band to produce a truly ground breaking album these days. Those of us who have been around long enough are beginning to realise that everything is circular, and nothing is really new. Kraftwerk recognise this, and they have finally realised that you don't have to be innovative or provocative to be excellent.
Expect to hear samples popping up all over the place

Bought this sometime ago but just getting around to reviewing it. I thought I had done it already.

Whether they were intentionally doing the word play on the title or not - this is a really good CD. It's not Trans Europe Express or Autobahn, but it still is one of their better releases.

It's too bad that they cannot get the original line-up together and put out some new music.

If you are a fan of Kraftwerk, then you owe it to yourself to get this. If you are wondering about Kraftwerk, I would make one of the two above titles your first purchase, thehn get this one then the others. You will be a fan.
