This guy is amazing. I keep playing this for people and they love it and tell me they have never heard anything like it. I even got a huge discount at the auto shop for just having this CD. After the mechanic took my car from the parking lot and listened to one minute of this, he came in and said
"that sounds crazy! you have to let me copy this"
After getting a nice chunk of cash taken off my bill, this cd already paid for itself and never collects dust.
I know everyone compares Clark to Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, and Autechre, but for good intentions. He is already that good, after just a few releases.
yep i broadly agree with the other reviewer -Chris Clark clearly knows his IDM , Autechre et al + "empty the bones of you " does have some excellent + inventive tracks with a whole host of clever programming tricks , layers + beats BUT the momentum + inventiveness just isnt maitained with several tracks from mid way onwards starting to sound far too sluggish, samey + lack lustre.
so far - i much prefer his later "Growls Garden" EP for its far more uptempo , evolved + more varied styles. and the bass line on the title track is THE dirtiest ! but Empty is disappointingly downbeat / too "noir" for me.
good in places, but not startling.. go for Clark's "body riddle " or "growl's garden" EP instead. or Clark's big influence: Cristian Vogel 's "dungeon master" which is a masterpiece.
