A fine performance, with extremely distinguished playing throughout by the Concertgebouw of this notoriously difficult score. Plus excellent contributions from the vital piano and onde martinot parts.
This is a piece of extreme dynamic range, which can only be reflected fully on SACD. And it is the only Turangalila on this medium. So far, so good. However, the 1992 recording is in relatively low bit-rate PCM; this means, basically, that it is not as focussed, transparent or natural sounding as higher bit-rate or DSD recordings. It is, moreover, quite spot-miked.
Despite this, it is well worth getting. I only auditioned on stereo, but understand that the surround layer is spectacular!
