Patty Loveless has spent her career choosing between country pop and hardcore country, and shes produced masterpieces in both styles (Long Stretch of Lonesome and Mountain Soul, respectively). But now it seems shes sick of having to choose at all. On Your Way Home is built equally around the boot-scooting rhythms of contemporary country and the phrasing, melodies, and instrumentation of honky-tonk and bluegrass. For instance, "I Dont Want to Be that Strong" begins, hushed, in a manner as perfect for a front-porch performance by fiddle and guitar, then skyrockets into right-now power ballad territory even as an old-school pedal-steel guitar keeps wanging away. She cries here at a grandfathers funeral; gets so horny, on the Rodney Crowell-penned first single, that she calls in sick; goes carousing on Buddy and Julie Millers "Lookin for a Heartache Like You"; and on the title track, confronts a husband about where he stops on his way home from work. Loveless every strangled, knotty note is classic in content and contemporary in execution. And vice versa, too. --David Cantwell

Lovelessのポップカントリー界での地位はその歌唱力によって既に確立されているので、ここでは特に触れませんが（言うまでもなくこのアルバムもすばらしい出来です。)、このCDにはボーナスとしてDVDが付属していることます。シンプルなバックを従えてのLovelessの歌いっぷりが映像で見ることが出来るのは大きな魅力です。DVD付で通常の価格ですから大変お得だと思います。

Patty Lovelessのしっかりとした歌唱力、粒揃いの楽曲。とても充実感のある一枚です。
いずれの曲もシンプルな作りで、魅力的なメロディに乗せて歌われているのは日常の素朴な感情であり、どこか土の香りのする生活風景です。そしてどこか身近で、すっと心に沁みてくる美しさを持っています。
収められている11曲全て飛ばすことなく聞いていますが、なかでも魅力的なメロディでテンポよく歌う１）、ストレートな乗りと歌詞が痛快な９）、祖父の葬儀での想いをしっとり歌った11）が印象的でした。
ブルーグラス、マウンテン･ミュージックをベースにポップ調のカントリーを得意とする彼女ですが、本作でも様々な表情の歌をしっかりと聴かせてくれます。体温のありがたさ、気持ちよさを呼び戻してくれるような魅力を感じています。
中味の素晴らしさは述べた通りですが、秀逸なジャケットとDVD、これまた嬉しくなってしまいました。

Classic Patty Loveless ! If you're a fan of REAL country you "caint" go wrong with Patty. This album features "The Grandpa That I Know" , a song about a child at his Grandpa's funeral. Very moving. Also liked "Looking For a Heartache Like You" and "Born Again Fool" along with the title song. Nowadays, you don't hear real country. You have to search for something that was once common. This is the real deal!

One of my fave country instruments is the fiddle and this album has it in abundance!
Such as the catchy uptempo Nothin' Like The Lonely,the lovely hit ballad On Your Way Home and the fiddle fuelled Born-Again Fool.Another great ballad.
She also does a great cover of the Rodney Crowell song Lovin' All Night which was another hit.
But the real gem is the gorgeous ballad The Grandpa That I Know,I absolutely love the beautiful fiddle arrangement and the really touching lyrics to this.
This is one of Patty's finest albums from one of country musics best singers....

La petite Patty, écoutant le « Grand Ole Opry », pensait-elle qu'elle deviendrait une des plus grandes voix de la country-music ?
Patty Loveless (ou Lovelace- de son 1er mari), après des années de dur labeur, jouant du rock à ses débuts, décida de se consacrer à la musique country...et qu'elle bonheur pour nous aujourd'hui !
Très influencée par Loretta Lynn et Patsy Cline (dont on retrouve des résonnances vocales), Patty possède une voix captivante, profonde. Douce et crystalline cette voix est encore une fois de plus incroyable sur cet album « On your way home ».
Addition des styles de ses précedents albums (« Trouble with the truth », « Long stretch of lonesome », « Mountain soul »), Patty réussi en 2003 à conjuguer ce que beaucoup attendent de la country-music aujourd'hui : des rythmes contemporains country et les mélodies et instrumentations bluegrass-honky-tonk. Ses chansons sont belles et émouvantes comme des prières de bénédiction (titre « On your way home »), joyeuses et stimulantes (le 'sassy-shuffle' « Lookin' for a heartache like you » et le 'boogie toe tapping' « Lovin' all hight » - 1er single -), nous plongeant au coeur des Appalaches ( Le sublimme « Nothin' like the lonely). Oui Patty n'a rien à envier aux autres interprètes de la 'musique du pays' car « On your way home » la confirme comme une étoile de la musique authentique des racines américaines.

This album is excellent, it's Patty Loveless at her best. Every song on this album will make a positive impression on your soul. Patty has such a wonderful voice that I always feel good after I hear her sing, even if it's a sad song. She's my favorite female country singer and "On Your Way Home" is one of her best albums. Great artist + great album = a great feeling!
