Here's one of those mysteriously beautiful lost recordings from the late 1960s, originally a pair of privately pressed LPs, finally brought to enchanting light. The work of brother & sister Chuck & Mary Perrin, these songs truly capture the ethereal, haunted loveliness of another time, another world. Exquisite harmonies, simple but transporting guitar (augmented by additional instruments on the latter songs), all combine to evoke a mood of autumnal contemplation, pierced by flashes of sunlight through tree branches & on winding creeks. There's a wary gentleness here, a yearning & longing for a peace already achieved, already lost. The handful of covers are well-chosen, but the real standouts are Chuck Perrin's own compositions, which sound like songs that always existed, songs we almost know by heart at the first note.
I see that I'm the first reviewer for this CD, but I hope that I'm not the last. For anyone who's been burned by "forgotten treasures" that never come close to their overrated praise, here's the place to regain your faith. This sort of naive but wise music is impossible to create today ... but this is the real thing. Most highly recommended!
